“If you don’t take care of this the most magnificent machine that you will ever be given…where are you going to live?â€
― Karyn Calabrese
How do you take care of yourself?
I was never very active during college and the first few years after I graduated. I suppose my preferred method of burning off calories was lots of dancing (wow we loved to go to parties then!) I also ate out frequently and luckily my fast metabolism didn’t show the effects of my lifestyle. Fast forward a few years and I was still eating junk food and not exercising at all when we moved to London. Unfortunately, age and slowing metabolism did result in a wretched little paunch (not cute at all!)
I started hitting the gym consistently and got onto a low carb/low sugar lifestyle after speaking to a friend who successfully adopted it (I completely endorse this diet shift for health and weight benefits!) Most importantly, I have a lot less junk food at home (not going to lie, there are still potato chips, but I don’t buy them as often!) This photo shoot with one of my favorite ladies, Karlie Kloss, is called “Fashion Detox”, but I started thinking about how I have been detoxifying my life. I cut out food that slowed me down and incorporated a more active lifestyle. While I have fewer dance workouts, I have Zumba and sculpt classes now to keep me moving. A detoxifying lifestyle has been a great thing in our house hold and while I may not look like Karlie soon (check out her abs!), I still feel pretty fabulous.
Have a lovely week!
That was a great photo shoot. As you get older, you really have to think about not only what you put in your body but how much. Anything in moderation is a good thing. I have to watch my sodium intake.
I exercise and try to eat right, though I do have moments of splurging and eating loads of sweets and cakes and cheeses. So, I really need to take care as they can be fattening. I walk, do exercises and try to rest as I need. Taking care of yourself is so important as this is the only body you get and if you want it to go far, you have to take care. I also don’t smoke or drink either. Happy Monday doll, I hope it’s a gorgeous week for you xx
The photos are stunning. She looks fabulous. I don’t eat that unhealthy as I used too and I’m feeling so much better now. Now I just have to start to workout.
xx
omgosh talk about seriously fabulous!! especially that cherry blossom picture w/ the floor length pink gown!!
yes I think i’m actually going to sell the green WOC! I just don’t use it that much.. i’m guilty of carrying too many things with me hehehehe :p
Hi dear, I think i need to go on one of these detoxifying diets, carbs are my weakness! Love that romantic first image.
Carbs are my weakness too! But it really does get easier to eat fewer carbs. I also allow myself to eat freely during the weekend and that helps too!
I’m getting there. I am no Karlie Kloss but I am with ya on buying less junk and trying to prepare more concscious meals.
You rounded up some great editorials. And I TOTALLY agree with your sentiment.

Gorgeous shoot and that first photo is stunning! I watch what I eat as well especially during the week so I can indulge a little on weekends 🙂 I also hydrate generously and try to get at least 7 – 8 hrs. of sleep a night. Sleep is so underrated.

i’ve recently adopted a healthier lifestyle, as in a week ago. i don’t feel differently yet, in fact i feel worse (tired), but i know it’s a good thing.
Oh no! Well as Rowena mentioned, sleep is a major factor in staying healthy as well. Once you start eating things that keep your sugar levels at consistent levels, you should hopefully feel a bit better.
These are some very striking images, and you do have a good point. We mustn’t mistreat our bodies too much, or we will come to regret it. I’m not a super active person, but I try to do little things each day to keep active.
beautiful photos!
