“Begin, be bold, and venture to be wise.”
― Horace
Tiana Tolstoi for Harper’s Bazaar Kazakhstan June 2016
How do you balance being bold with being smart? I saw this editorial of Tiana Tolstoi for Harper’s Bazaar Kazakhstan June 2016 and instantly thought of being bold, assertive, and even a little bit edgy. We should all venture to be bold sometimes and show our true feelings and values. It’s something that may not come naturally for all of us. It may even need to be encouraged and nurtured at an early age.
But then I saw this interesting quote by Horace and also thought, it’s not just about being bold. I want to be bold, but I also want to be wise. We may start out by being outspoken and open. Eventually, we learn that we should use our voices wisely. If we are bold in all instances, we may end up being overlooked because people are simply used to it. We should speak up at the right times, the right situations, and for the right people. Then, people will really start to notice our bold behavior and its meaning. So I will still try to be bold and teach my little one to do the same. But I will also try to be wise as well.
It’s so weird, I started off very shy & meek. When I entered the corporate world I got just as bold. LOL I’m very outspoken now and don’t bite my tongue. LOL With people nowadays, you kinda have to be unfortunately. I love this photoshoot! That blue eye makeup is stunning.

Looking back I was so much bolder back in collge but I find that I’ve become more mellow these days.. I do agree that ,mo,ments of boldness do serve their purpose though.
Love this message. You’re such a great role model for your little one. Great post and beautiful imagery.

I am team bold, so loving this editorial!! Fab!
Absolutely! This also reminds me of what my mum used to tell us growing up, “be slow to speak and swift to listen.” it is not always about being bold… but of course stand up for what you believe in and are passionate about. Love the message and the editorial is really captivating. x/Madison
Madison, I love your mom’s quote and will also heed them – be slow to speak and swift to listen!
What a great quote, and I’m loving the makeup in this editorial 🙂
