“I love New York, even though it isn’t mine, the way something has to be, a tree or a street or a house, something, anyway, that belongs to me because I belong to it.”
― Truman Capote

What are some of the cherished places in your life?
Is it your hometown? Or is it your college town? Or perhaps it is somewhere you spent summers when you were a kid?
I was just driving through downtown Manhattan with my husband a few hours ago and thought of the fond memories I have in New York, especially downtown. The Lower East Side, the Village, and the financial district were a huge part of my life since I started high school downtown many moons ago. I reminisced with him about a random Italian restaurant on 6th Avenue we stumbled upon one balmy summer night. We couldn’t remember the food, though it was good, but really remembered that the olive oil was phenomenal with a fruity fragrance. I also lamented that we wouldn’t be able to visit Pearl Oyster Bar or try Luke’s Oyster bar for their Maine style lobster rolls any time soon. I also recalled first trying sushi at a restaurant downtown (perhaps at Yama?) and loving the foreign texture but delicious taste.
I’ll always have such lovely memories of my teens and 20s spent downtown. I’m also constantly drawn back and building new memories there. As Truman Capote says above, it belongs to me because I belong to it.
Have a lovely week!
These are stunning pictures, I love them. Wonderful city, not been to NY in many years, but I loved it. Glasgow here in Scotland is a fantastic city too and Edinburgh too. But, I went to NY as a teenager from a very small town and had never seen anything like it, was amazed by everything. Hopefully I’ll see NY again one day 🙂 xx
I can see you visiting NY again some day Kizzy! I’ve heard great things about Edinburgh and would love to visit some day too!
New York is always full of LIFE! You should consider moving back there!

I’m quite fond of NYC as well 😉 A friend who was just back visiting and I were talking about how much the city has changed especially downtown. I love how built up it is now considering how it was still kind of a not happening area when I first moved down from Chelsea about 10 years ago. The first time I tried sushi was at Yama too – the one by Union Square 🙂
The oyster bar sounds good. I have memories of a few places especially for eating with family and friends when I visit Berlin, and love the food in San Francisco too. /Madison
