Nordstrom anniversary sale picks 2019

I am a very late convert to shopping at Nordstrom. There were no Nordstrom department stores in New York when I was wandering malls during my teenage years (there are a few Nordstrom Racks scattered throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens now). But in this age of declining customer friendly store policies (RIP amazing GAP price adjustments/refunds), Nordstrom stands out for their stellar customer service. They also have a great selection of affordable as well as high end clothing and accessories. Even though I only shop a few times a year, I make it count.

So I decided to get a Nordstrom card and was also able to snag a $40 welcome note (store credit).

Note: Get the Nordstrom card to get a welcome note. I’m not getting any referrals, I just wanted to share a good bonus! It’s also the only way to get early access to the famed anniversary sale.

I would highly suggest getting a card if you ever want to shop the anniversary sale. The famous anniversary sale provides 40% off pre-fall merchandise for a few weeks. Afterwards, the items return to full retail price. But in the meantime, many items are usually sold out in the first few weeks. The best sections to visit IMO are the tops and beauty sections. They have exclusive items for elusive prices.

But choose carefully and select items you’d really get good use out of in the long run. Don’t let the sale googles fool you and choose the pieces that speak to your style and will last.

Staple items

1.Vince Havana Notch Bootie, $263.90 (from $395)

A classic bootie is pretty much a must for cooler weather, am I right?

2. SPANX® Faux Leather Leggings, $64.90 (from $98)

I’ve read a lot of good things about these leggings and this is a nice way to get an edgier look.

3. Barefoot Dreams® CozyChic(TM) Lite Island Cardigan, $72.90 (from $110)

This is the drapey sweater of my dreams. I’d wear this many, many times.

4. AG Ex-Boyfriend Relaxed Slim Jeans, $149.90 (from $225)

I am not usually a fan of the very worn in look, but these jeans just call to me. I love the relaxed, but not too relaxed fit that still makes this chic, but more forgiving. These are in my cart.

5. Argento Vivo Tear drop earrings, $44.90 (from $68)

I adore this minimal and chic style of earrings. These would go with everything and the gold plated sterling silver wouldn’t wreak havoc on my sensitive ears.

Beauty picks

1. MAC Cosmetics Full Size Lip Haul Set, $59.50

3 lipsticks and 3 lip glasses in neutral shades for drug store prices – this is a killer deal. Remember you can trade in any 6 used MAC products for a new MAC lipstick through its back to MAC program.

2. The Gift of Magic, Miracle skin, $75 (for $102 value)

I’ve been wanting to try magic cream forever because it is supposed to contain some heavy duty anti-aging ingredients.

3. YSL Balm & Care Lip Duo, $45 (for $72 value)

These lip conditioners are full of antioxidants and help to lock in moisture. I carry a YSL Volupté lip balm in my bag and love the feel and color. P.S. The price is great and the cases are gorgeous.

4. Supergoop! SPF 50 antioxidant -infused sunscreen mist trio, $38 (from $57)

I use Supergoop! sunscreens quite a bit and love the idea of the mists for quick and easy application. This is another “must buy” item for me though note it appears to be a chemical sunscreen.

5. Simple Human 8″ pro silver mirror, $150 (from $250)

This is the ultimate beauty mirror and the best price I’ve seen.

Tip: Favorite/wish list items and get an alert when the price drops

The key dates:

July 9-10 – early access (top tier Nordstrom cardholders)

August 4 – sale ends
