This is one of the coolest pieces of furniture I have seen in a while.
Armchair, Gerald Summers, 1934
The humble, functional, and sometimes statement making chair gets its own show, “Chairvolution” from now until Nov. 28 at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. I would definitely attend this exhibit if I were in the area.
I never thought of a chair as being iconic and a piece of art in and of itself. But as we continue to build up our home and invest in interesting pieces, I realize a chair can really set the mood of a room and make it pop. Here are some really cool designs:
Cross check armchair, Frank Gehry, 1992
Womb Chair, Aero Saarinen (totally on our wish list though I don’t know if it’s in the show!)
If you go to the show, tell us how it is! Do you have any chairs on your wish list?
Arne Jacobsen Egg Chair, the Womb chair(pictured), Eames chair, Lignet Rosette Pop Chair… I really love the modern classics:-)
love the frank gehry chair 🙂
Those are so cool! I’m lovin the last one
Cute seats! Like the last one the most!
These are so cool, I want some new chairs!
Love that blue one! Looks super comfy!
I absolutely love the last one, and the Gehry. Haha, I spend so much of my time in chairs, for better or worse, they might as well look this good 🙂
nice chair!

@Stacey – I almost forgot about the egg chair! Great, great piece!
The cross check armchair is absolutely brilliant. <3
Hey, so funny you said I should come and check up on this. My whole family was in the furniture business when I grew up. When I in the future start my own little Gallery I am actually planing to sell one of a kind of furniture. Great picks!
The Saarinen chair was actually designed for Florence Knoll to make a chair to curl up in (I think she was pregnant) therefore the name “Womb”.
My husband gave this to chair to me when I was pregnant with my first son and I must say I will never ever get rid of it! The best most comfortable chair:) And it looks fantastic as well.
Thank you, for a little morning inspiration!
