Happy Fun, Free Friday lovelies!
Winter in Tokyo by Yuichi Yokota
I haven’t experienced winter in a whole year. While I grew up enduring sometimes debilitatingly cold conditions, I haven’t had to experience anything below freezing in a while. Since we were stuck in upstate NY last year during a snowstorm, I feel like I had my fill for quite a while. But it is always lovely actually witnessing and taking part in the first snow of the season. If it’s quite a brutal storm, it can last a while. But it makes you appreciate the forces of nature. That and snow days can be quite nice. I saw these pictures of winter in Tokyo by Yuichi Yokota and was fascinated by both the location (traditional and modern architecture) and cultural behaviors (umbrellas are key and kimonos will still be worn!) Here are a few favorite pictures.
Otherwise, this weekend I am…
…celebrating Lunar New Year/Chinese New Year/CNY! It’s a big holiday here since so much of the population is ethnically Chinese. We will be attending a big party in our little expat community. We are also hosting a smaller party at home and inviting a few families over. It should be fun and crazy. Here’s to hoping we make it through the evening in one piece and there aren’t too many tears! #girlsaresuchdramaqueens
What are you up to this weekend?
Have a lovely weekend!
Thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures – This set of photos almost(!) miss the winter. It is still cold here but I can tell the wind is softer now.
Happy new year to you and your family! <3
*almost makes me miss* ;p
This year I am really home sick and have been since a week ago. I miss the crazy CNY preparations and celebrations so I have been cooking a lot of Chinese food. Today I’m making a simple noodles soup, just to warm the soul.

happy Chinese New Year to you and your family! I wish I could experience snow. It never snows here in Australia and I always find myself mesmerised by winter photos of everyone up in the Northern Hemisphere.
