BareSkin Pure Brightening Serum Foundation

There are definitely more than enough BB creams, tinted moisturizers, and light foundations out there.

But when I look for a new one to try, I also look for:

1. one that has gotten a couple of awards or at least blogger buzz (Thanks Allure Magazine and Elle!)

2. an easy to use product

3. a beauty item developed by a company with a good reputation (I’ve loved BareMinerals foundation for a while now)

I’ve been using this on and off for a few months now. I love trying new foundations, especially foundations I can easily wear during the day (i.e. they have SPF protection so I can throw it on in the morning and run out the door). I’m a busy mom but want to look like a “Thanks, I have a fabulous kid and get lots of sleep” kinda mom!

I have also had freckles on my cheeks for years so I was curious about the combination effect of a serum and foundation to brighten my freckled skin. BareMinerals writes that “Lilac plant stem cells are recognized for their exceptional healing abilities and are known to provide powerful antioxidant protection. BareMinerals extracts these cells, fortifies them with their unique mineral complex, and infuses them into their formula to improve the appearance of skin and help defend against environmental stressors. ”

The formula definitely gave me a natural finish (I would develop a little bit of a dewy, ahem sweaty, glow in warm or humid weather); it is also somewhat of a thin consistency for a liquid foundation as you can see above. I’ve also been peeking in the mirror and think it has also lightened my freckles a bit which is great! It doesn’t have the powdery finish of Hourglass Immaculate foundation which gives a more even and matte finish. But I would still use this foundation for its longer term serum benefits. I’ve always used my fingers to apply the foundation but wish I had a foundation brush for this (Bare Minerals makes a few that make work). As you can see below, the formula rubs in, but gives a little of a “ah, she’s wearing foundation” sheen when not fully rubbed in. It may also be best used with primer since as you can see, the fine lines on my hand are still visible.

Keep in mind that this formula is light so a few drops goes a long way. Also since this is so liquid, the foundation can go everywhere if the cap isn’t completely secure (as evidenced my the foundation stuck all over the inside of my cap). I also wish it was in a different type of bottle besides the eyedropper type bottle. But at least now I know how to deal with it.

At the end of the day, this is a product I’ll purchase again, but use with the appropriate brush!
