Now that I’ve started using natural ingredients more, I am also experimenting more with putting them together in different combinations. I constantly reach for coconut oil because of its intense moisturizing properties, but wanted to use cocoa butter as well. I definitely have to hold myself back from tasting some cocoa butter when I melt it, but wanted to use it with the coconut oil as well as another superstar oil, jojoba oil. These three natural ingredients really pack a great moisturizing and conditioning punch. I used it today and love how soft it leaves my hair and the aroma of the mild coconut. This is definitely a conditioner you can use all year round. Enjoy and don’t munch on your hair!
DIY Cocoa Butter Conditioner
Ingredients
- 2 tsp melted cocoa butter
- 1 tsp jojoba oil
- 1 tsp coconut oil
Preparation and instructions
1. Melt cocoa butter in a double boiler.
2. Mix in coconut oil to warm cocoa butter. After mixture has cooled, add in jojoba oil.
3. Put mixture into refrigerator to soften and chill for about 1 hour. Alternatively, if you leave it in the liquid form, just be aware that you have to use it quickly (within a week).
4. Remove mixture from refrigerator when it has hardened but still has a soft texture. You may also whip it at this time to create a whipped cocoa butter conditioner.
5. Let soften between your hands.
6. Use immediately and keep remaining portion in the refrigerator. If let outside, it may melt, especially if you are in a warm climate.
Benefit Rundown
- Coconut oil is readily absorbed by hair, filling up hollow shafts and making it appear thicker while also protecting it from damage
- Jojoba oil is an emollient which soothes skin and helps to unclog hair follicles
- Cocoa butter is high in fatty acids and helps to hydrate the skin
Sounds awesome! I love coconut everything!
