Beauty Product Review: Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail polish strips

February 13, 2013

I resisted nail polish strips for a while. After all, I am happy giving myself manicures, like my heart French manicure.

But I was intrigued by the fun designs on nail polish strips after seeing them time and time again online and in drug stores.

Would the strips last? Would it be hard to apply? Would the designs be tacky?

I finally gave into curiosity and tried the Sally Hansen Salon Effects nail polish strips.

These are the first version of strips released by the company and I have seen them sold in both the US and Asia. I applied them just prior to taking a vacation in Boracay, Philippines so I could really test how these strips fared against sand and water (I also knew a “regular” manicure would be ruined within two days of my vacation).

There are 16 nail strips in each pack with different widths and lengths to match each of your fingers.  The pack also comes with a special file for the nail strips that easily files away the strip at the tip after you have put it onto your nail.

The strips were somewhat long so I was able to cut one strip into two pieces (score – this pack can last for potentially 6 uses!) It was also easy enough to remove with nail polish remover though I found that I used a little extra remover due to the glue in these strips.

I think I’m the only one on the planet that can’t get the hang of these! I’ll have to try again, because the results are amazing and there are so many different designs to choose from.

Big fan of nail strips in general, and this particular Sally Hansen design is one of my favorites. I’ve used it before and totally love it!

I love ’em! I have the same ones!

I tried these once, and it was disastrous! 🙁 The width of the strips was way to big for my tiny nails, and I ended up making a huge mess. I’ve thought about trying them again in case I was just doing something wrong, but I think I’ll probably stick with liquid polish for now.

I got a set of these strips over a year ago and haven’t used them yet. I’m saving them for some sort of occasion. I don’t know what, but for $10, it has to be worth it. I can’t explain my logic. I’ll probably never end up using them.

I was able to cut these in half so I’m able to use one pack up to 6 times. I hope you do end up using them – they’re kinda fun and people loved seeing them!

I really like the design you chose! It looks so pretty on your hands. I was worried that these would be too difficult to apply but you have proven otherwise. Great review!

You did a really good job. I always have trouble getting them close to my cuticles any suggestions?

    • Chic 'n Cheap Living May 1, 2013 at 20:59

Thank you for the sweet comment! I pushed my cuticles back and that made it easy to put the nail strips closer to my cuticles. You can even have it overlap slightly onto the skin and then file off any overhang.
