Photo Love: Holga appreciation with Jagger Photography

February 10, 2010

I don’t admit to knowing much about classic film cameras.  But I’ve learned a little more about them through my photographer blog stalking.

One of my new favorite film cameras is a Holga; a Holga gives a timeless, soft feel to the photos.  It’s like instant vintage photos – love that.  According to Wikipedia, this affordable toy camera is known for its lens that “displays vignetting, blur, light leaks, and other distortions.”  These imperfections are actually highly sought after by photographers.

I love how a Holga can impart a grainy, dreamy quality in a photograph.

I love picture of bridges or roads.  Where will the road go?  What will happen when we get there?  What waits for us on the other side?  We may not know but life is all about finding out.

Until then, sit back and enjoy the view.

And man, I have a lot of shopping and decorating to do!

i found out about Holgas through blog stalking too and my photographer asked me if i wanted him to use one for some photos since i “seem to know a lot about photography” what?!!? me??? i have no idea what gave him that impression. lol

anyway i paid $500 for him to take some holga shots and i have to say they were well worth it. that is, if i’m right about which photos he shot with it….:)

Film does give photos a wonderful quality. Though I don’t think its truly an art form you can understand until you’ve done it yourself, because not only is it the camera that matters, but the way the photographer develops the film. Which trust me when I say that it can be a hard process because you have to time everything correctly. Not to mention long!

i’ve been thinking about getting a toy camera, I love the look of the pictures. I just bought my brother an instax camera (kinda like a polaroid) and the pictures are really cool!

    I’m a toy camera fan. 🙂
Digital just doesn’t look the same. The bridge image is gorgeous, such rich colors.

Wish we’d had some holgas taken at the wedding. So love them. Mr B & I own seven plastic cameras between us – it’s an addiction

My husband claims photos taken with film hold more info and detail. Film is still studied in the photo schools and used for special effects but not used as often as digital…
