Worth it? Healthy Deep fried food via T-Fal Actifry Low Fat Multi-Cooker and Healthy Fryer

May 3, 2010

I don’t necessarily have cravings for fried food (though I’m not going to say I haven’t been tempted by fried food stalls here or haven’t tried spicy chicken sandwiches at international fast food joints).  I definitely enjoy great onion rings, corn nuggets, and jalapeno poppers.  I got really excited when I saw corn nuggets for sale in Singapore.  But we’re trying to lead a healthier lifestyle (more vegetables, less meat, less fried stuff).

The answer to a fried food lover’s prayers seemed to be in this little machine – the T-Fal Actifry Low Fat Multi-cooker and Healthy Fryer or just the Healthy Fryer to me.  I’m not trying to endorse the thing, but I’m very, very intrigued.   Seriously who wouldn’t be after hearing that you can fry 2 pounds of french fries with 1 tablespoon of oil?!  The reviews seem mixed though.

If you’ve tried this, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Most importantly, is this worth it (it’s $299.95)?

Description from Amazon:
The actifry features a unique patented technology that combines an exclusive heating system and stirring paddle, so that you can cook great tasting fresh homemade French fries with just 1 tablespoon of your favorite oil (making a French fry with only 3-percent fat content vs. 16-18-percent fat in a regular fry). It’s also much more that, you can make a variety of dishes such as meats, poultry, risotto, seafood, granola, & desserts. Plus clean up is a breeze, actifry features a removable bowl, lid, filter and tablespoon- all of which are dishwasher safe (and most importantly- no oil to dispose of!).

wow, that’s interesting..maybe you couldn’t burn the house down with something like that, either…that can happen too when frying foods ..in the case of my grandmother. Anyway, I’ve been told..and I like it too..using olive oil when softening your tortillas for cheese enchiladas and other mexican foods..won’t hurt your blood sugar.

Hmmm . . . I say it’s “maybe” worth it. I have a “full-fat” fryer from T-Fal. I’ve only ever used it to make falafels, since we don’t eat a ton of fried foods and I generally try to make healthy foods when I cook. I love how easy it is to use the fryer, but the cleanup is a real pain. I feel like you never quite get the oil out of it, but since I only make falafel a handful of times per year, it’s worth it to me. I’m very intrigued by this as well!

I have been wanting this for ages, but not sure to be honest, I try not to fry that much so not sure if it’s worth it. And it takes a lot of space I don’t really have in the kitchen… btw, its 119pounds on amazon UK 🙂 thats a better deal
    Have a lovely week xoxo

Hmm, it does look interesting. Although I’m not sure if it’s worth the price lol.

Does sound interesting for the occasional treat (fries with summer burgers!) – hope you give it a try and let us know how it goes!

I am totally intrigued..but the price tag is pretty steep. I would be curious to hear from people that have tried it too!

Unless you fry a lot, I wouldn’t say it’s worth it, and for the occasional fried indulgence I think going full fat is ok hahah. Although you never know until you actually have one how useful it is eh? Such a dilemma!

I saw the commercial for this and purchased it and let me tell you… worth every penny!

We have 2 kids in the house and I make them nuggets and fries all the time in it. It’s great and the best part… healthy alternative to deep frying. I made risotto and the mussels… Amazing!

The price is alittle up there but all in all, you can’t put a price to my family’s health.

I went online to t-falonlinestore.ca and purchased it there and within 3 days… it was at my front door step!
