“We need the tonic of wildness…At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.”
― Henry David Thoreau, Walden: Or, Life in the Woods
How do you feel about nature? Are you happiest when being out in the countryside or by the water? Or would you rather enjoy the comforts of home and familiar places? I saw this editorial – Walk On the Wild Side for Elle Italia October 2019 – and thought about my own relationship with nature.
I am undoubtedly and proudly a city girl. While I’ve lived in a few different places now, they have all been urban environments. I’ve only really camped once and we stayed in cabins and had bathroom facilities (we were in middle school so our school was likely also being gentle with us). I admit to enjoying creature comforts when traveling like comfortable lounges and of course wi-fi when I’m traveling.
While my favorite types of travel include beautiful architecture, I also long to see serene natural spaces. I hope to finally see some of the pink lakes outside of Perth next year. One day, I’d also love to go on a safari and safely visit animals in their own habitat. Some of my favorite times include living out in the French countryside and truly seeing the vastness of a clear sky as a multitude of stars twinkled in the distance.
So while I actually do like to visit lands explored, I also enjoy the beauty of nature as well. Even if I am visiting a place that is no longer wild, it is still a new experience for me. I may not always be one to walk on the wild side. But I will still try out a trip or two off the beaten path.
Have a lovely week!
Love leopard print!! Hope you have a gorgeous week lovely x
I enjoy small doses of nature but I definitely prefer and am more comfortable being in a controlled urban environment the most.
