What is it about warmer weather that makes me reach for stripes?
I think it has to do with a subtle nod towards going for a clean, nautical look. Stripes are a classic print and bring an interesting visual element to an outfit. But a good striped skirt paired with a simple, fitted top makes me think of an easy, elegant outfit. This is a pairing that works equally well for the office as well as for a weekend outing. Just remember to have your colors pay homage to the bright days and blue waters with a mix of white and navy blue colors.
A modern nautical look includes the following:
– a fitted v-neck top
– light scarf to tie around your neck (extra points if it is in a fun nautical print!)
– a striped skirt with a twist (think asymmetrical stripes or stripes of different widths)
– a military style blazer with either pockets or buttons on each side
– a sensible, but chic pair of sandals (high heels if you can handle it!)
