What are your Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving traditions?
I have only celebrated one Thanksgiving in the US these last few years (oh how wonderful when my mom cooks up a storm!) So I have ended up having Thanksgiving with friends the last few years.
Our Thanksgivings here center around a similar theme – great food. It becomes more of a communal affair with Friendsgivings and the menu becomes a little different. Thanksgiving with my family usually has an Asian focus with a few newer Western side dishes thrown in (like the spinach puffs I made last year!)
I like to place appetizers like the spinach puffs or roast vegetables on a few platters and use larger ones for mains like a roast chicken or beef (sadly turkey is hard to get outside the US!):
Threshold oval textured platter, Target, $14.99
I also like to put out an assortment of cheeses – manchego, brie, and pepper jack are a few favorites so I can cover a variety of textures and tastes.
Threshold acacia cheese board, Target, $13.99
Finally, I’m known as a dessert girl (or at least the girl who can make desserts!) so I try to bake up something. I also like the idea of keeping it simple though. Mmm peppermint ice cream in a cocoa float (fancy name – peppermint affogato)? I’m seriously getting inspired here!
Anchor Hocking Rio glass mug set of 6, Target, $17.99
What are your favorite traditions for Thanksgiving?
love those dishes!! I haven’t had a proper Thanksgiving since moving to the UK since its an American holiday, but we do try to do something small here when we remember. I miss Big pumpkin pies though, haha!! Have a great day doll xx
Kizzy, I’m totally with you! Thanksgiving as an expat is definitely a different affair but we do try to do something when remember too!
Haha, I laughed when I saw this was about Target because I can’t seem to go in there without leaving with either something from their new wood collection (I have that tray) and some sort of coffee cup, linen–yesterday it was a Nate Berkus rug. I love Target! 🙂

Mary Jo – great minds think alike! I got a few bamboo platters, but love their simple home decor finds. I love Target too 😉
lots of great options for serving ware!
Izzy and I are starting to make our own traditions and I’m excited to see where those take us.
Target has so many great serving options.. It’s my go-to for everything!
Hi there! I’m hosting a Giveaway on my blog, you can enter right here: http://fashionyfab.blogspot.mx/2013/11/etsy-shop-invitations-for-creatives.html
I need that cheese board. It’s stunning:) One of our traditions is dinner with all our friends where everyone cooks something and brings it to the party:) Happy Wednesday, lovely.
My family does a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with turkey and all the trimmings. I love Target! I’m going there in the next couple of days to see their holiday stuff. There goes my checking account! HAHAHA

Kim, I have a small Target giveaway coming up so hopefully that will help your Target shopping spree!
The serving plates are so beautiful, I can just picture how great they would look at a dinner party table. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy day to stop by 🙂
Being Chinese, we’ve never really had any Thanksgiving traditions. My husband’s birthday falls on Thanksgiving from to time though 🙂

Rowena, my birthday has fallen on Thanksgiving sometimes too! At least that’s a fun tradition to celebrate right 😉
First off, good for you that you disclose your sponsors so responsibly. My family isn’t really into some Thanksgiving traditions (they don’t really like turkey!), but we make traditional Chinese food and invite friends over for a party.

My mom similarly doesn’t cook turkey, but loves make ribs and savory sticky rice (so good!) Any kind of food could show up at Thanksgiving, but if it’s good, it’s good!
