Styling Tip: How to tie a silk (Hermes or other) scarf into a summer headwrap/headband

April 24, 2013

Certain things must happen during spring:

– I must get fresh flowers

– I must get my hands on some fresh berries

– I must enjoy the cooler breezes outside

– I must wear my silk scarves more

I kept this runway picture below in my inspiration folder for a while – I just love the simple casual chic look.

I have become a collector of Hermès scarves ever since buying one for my mother and then becoming fully entranced by the scarves myself.  While I have always paid less than retail price, I still pay a pretty penny.  I certainly wanted to increase my cost per wear and also do something a little different with them.  I love this subtle, but unexpected look.

There are a couple of fun styles in the very cool Hermès scarf tying series is online here; I wouldn’t go for a full on pirate scarf look but may try the updated turban look.  If only I could really wear the halter top!

Here are my instructions for a simple way to tie the scarf into a subtle headwrap (using Fantaisies Indiennes scarf):

1. Fold your scarf on the diagonal so that the corners meet and create a triangle.

2. Fold lengthwise several times until the scarf is about a 2″ wide strip.

3. Take the ends of the scarf in each hand and place the middle of the scarf over your hairline.

4. Tie once or twice at the back.  You can also secure the scarf on the side with a hairpin.
