What do you like to do during the weekend?
My weekend activities have certainly changed since the little one arrived (it’s about the playdates and family friendly activities now!) But I have always appreciated art and it’s especially nice to see great displays of public art. I was happy to check out i Light Marina Bay – the largest sustainable light art festival in Asia. So what exactly does that mean? I wasn’t sure either, but I saw some pretty gorgeous pictures of some of the 25 art light related installations in and around Marina Bay and wanted to check it out. International artists from across the world including Japan, Singapore, Israel, and the USA created interactive light exhibits surrounding Marina Bay harbor.
It can be a little exhausting walking around the marina to see all of the exhibits so wear comfortable shoes! It is also worthwhile to check out the map first and decide on what areas you’d prefer to see. I knew I really wanted to see the prism and the angel wings, but my husband really wanted to see the food stands at Pasarbella.
We started and ended at the food area by Marina Bay Sands, which also had a live jazz performance.
We saw all of the installations and then walked back to the Pasarbella station to eat. It was a great set of public art exhibits and I’ll be heading back again to see it with some visiting family.
Make sure to check out the public art in your city and you might be surprised!
Here are a few favorite pieces:
Groove Light – seeing how shapes create dynamic shadows
Unveiled Beauty – suspended acrylic lights where visitors can write message
emograph – this installation measures a visitor’s pulse and transforms it into color and sound
C’SCAPE – a mini rendering of city lights
Bolt – lightning you can touch
Torrent – interactive light and shadows
Angels of Freedom
Lampshade – these solar lights only light up at night!
Light Origami – it’s like peeking inside a prism!
