Miranda Kerr for US Harper’s Bazaar April 2012

When I think of retro, I immediately think of an era of soda fountains, pencil skirts, and perfectly coiffed hair.  Of course I am thinking of the 1950s.  I haven’t watched “Mad Men” yet (I know I am one of the last people on earth that hasn’t seen the show!) but I can appreciate the influence the show has had on fashion and style.  I love the longer hemlines (but err, not too long because I’m not that tall!) and fitted silhouettes.  But I think we keep revisiting this age for fashion influences because it created such classic pieces that celebrated the female form while still covering women up.  This balance is still one that most of us try to achieve, especially in professional settings.

I know fun pencil skirts, like this ASOS lace bonded one for $53, are still a wardrobe staple for me.  Do you have any fashion influences from the 1950s?

Have a lovely week!

    OMG she is so hot.

I think the sheath dress made a debut in the 50’s? If so, I am still in love with that look.

Don’t forget my giveaway starts on April 1.

Beautiful editorial and I love the ASOS skirt you selected as well. I haven’t tried a longer hemline because I, too, am short, but I’d love to see if I (we) can pull it off!

I absolutely love this look and this is kind of the reason why I am tempted to chop my hair! I love this style and you would enjoy madmen 🙂 I love that show I’ve seen every episode!

It’s true, this era has been so influential on style. I love how feminine and flirty it is, while being like you said, modest. Hehe don’t worry, I also haven’t watched Mad Men!
