Photo Love {Inspiration}: Strength via Vogue Nippon September 2012

Life demands from you the strength that you possess.  Only one feat is possible, not to run away.

What is strength?  One aspect of strength is to inspire and exude confidence in a certain area.  I’ve become stronger over the years (emotionally and mentally though I’m also working on the physical part!)  It hasn’t been an easy path to getting stronger, but I’ve learned from the bruises and bumps over the years.

I remember crying in front of my boss when I was 25 or 26 years old because a client has lied about my performance and written a bad review of me (actually our whole team).  I remember feeling betrayed and hurt, but I also clearly remember the look of panic and disbelief from my boss when I started tearing.  He wanted to run, and he wasn’t actually listening to me anymore.  Nope, showing emotion in this situation was not a good thing.

Though I am naturally a sensitive soul and quite emotional, I knew from that day onward that I needed to master my emotions.  I unfortunately had a few more bad experiences along the way (politics and shadowy games are just part of the job as one ascends that ever long food chain) but was determined to find a way to become stronger.  The process has been a combination of breathing exercises, playing the game a bit better, and learning how to effectively express myself.  I found and gained strength in myself along the way.  We all have strengths and weaknesses, but our strengths may sometimes be buried a bit deeper inside.  Go find it and discover how strong you can be.

Have a lovely week!

That’s good that you’ve gotten so much stronger. I’m definitely one of the overly emotional types. I’ve got a long way to go.

Love these. And I can be quite sensitive, I’ve had to learn to be stronger and not take everything so personally. Not worry about others and just focus on what I’m doing, it’s a lot less stress that way!! Hope you have a great week xx

I feel so identified with what you say! I have had a similar experience at work, and it’s taken years to change the opinion my boss has had about me since then. Inside I am the same person who takes everything too personally, but I don’t show it anymore. I am also working on my inside through breathing exercises and yoga practice.Loved this post!kisses

Good theme for a fashion shoot, is that KArlie Kloss? i don’t even recognize her. Your words of motivation were great, its true we need to ‘master our emotions’. have a great week dear.

Thank you for sharing this with us. I think we have all had a similar experience, and I struggle every day to master my emotions. My field is adversarial by nature, and I’ve had to grow a few more layers of skin over the years to cope with it. Breathing exercises sounds like a great way to manage. Love the photos as well!

Determination to become stronger takes time and patience you are right! You’re also right about the games people play and getting mentally ready to face the world. Tears never work. I guess crying is for moments with oneself and intimates. . .
    Beautiful!

I actually do breathing exercises too. I find that sometimes I get a bit emotional, especially when I really don’t want to, so I try to take deep breaths and drink water to stop it from happening.

We’ve all been there! And it’s hard to try to not cry on the job when you have a horrible boss, too much to do and unrealistic deadlines, and colleagues that don’t pick up their fair share.

Wonderful post! Gaining strength is an ongoing process.

THis is such a good post and I was just talking with a friend about that very subject, no matter how emotional a person you are, crying is very damaging in the work place. Love the story of your evolution, all of us sensitive souls go through that I think 🙂

i understand exactly how you feel. i wear my emotions, heart and everything else on my sleeve. i cried in front of a boss one day. she talked to me (very enlightening woman) and told me she’s done the same. one trick is to look up at the ceiling and it’s suppose to help stop you from crying. hahaha i’ve developed a lot thicker skin since then. you’ll be fine! we all have those moments.
