I have an affection for a great city. I feel safe in the neighborhood of man, and enjoy the sweet security of the streets.

Pirelli 2013
Every great city has its own particular vibe. New York City may be known for its frenetic, almost electric energy. Paris is famous for its beautiful meandering streets (just watch your step below because dogs think they own the streets) made for leisurely walks. Tokyo has an artful, dynamic air where one can appreciate both a zen calm as well as a more lively, youthful vibe.
While each city may have an overall feel, I love how you can really get to know a city through its many neighborhoods. The Lower East Side in New York is one of my favorite areas because it is full of younger restaurants and small boutiques echoing the excitement of its younger usually more design or artistically inclined residents. But it can be a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of Main Street Flushing full of newer residents taking in the sights and sounds of restaurants that taste of home (great article about Asian food diversity in the area here).
These pictures from the Pirelli 2013 calendar remind me of the diversity of neighborhoods in a city. I love visiting different neighborhoods in a city and really getting a feel for the different micro cultures in those areas.
What is the favorite neighborhood where you live?
Have a lovely week!
Downtown in my town has to be one of my favorite neighborhoods; I love how quaint and close everything is.
In SF, I love the Mission.
Beautiful photos!
These pictures are beautiful. Yes, each city has its own unique vibe. But for me, New York City will always be the most exciting place on earth.
Hard to say. I love the contrast like in my own part of city. Calm and peaceful it’s only 2 minutes away from never-sleeping part (I mean literally 2 minutes walking).
Pirelli calendar is gorgeous as usual
Those are stunning pictures. I love the unique-ness of each city and place…it makes travelling so much fun!! Hope you have a wonderful week ahead doll xx
Great photos! I visited the Lower East Side (and Essex Restaurant) the last time I was in NYC, and I loved it. I have too many favorite neighborhoods to pick from in SF, but my top three are The Embarcadero for its stunning Bay Views and paved walkways, The Haight for its funky shops and great food and my neighborhood (Pacific Heights) for its multimillion dollar estates and its unapologetic yuppy vibe 😉
Essex is great and there are so many great restaurants down there. Pulino’s has a great squash, kale pizza that has your name on it too. I would love to return to SF one day and visit all those neighborhoods, especially the Haight and Pacific Heights!
in Jersey i love DT Westfield and DT Summit – i’m there all week long – either for appts, food, or shopping – and then forget it when we are talking the city =- i have all my nooks and crannies all over that place!
I’ll have to visit Westfield and Summit one day! I usually only get to Paramus for shopping (an adventure in itself of course!)
I wish our neighborhoods were this sultry. Ha! No, but seriously my fave neighborhood in NYC is SoHo and in Chicago it’s Roscoe Village. Two totally different vibes.
Beautiful!
what stunning and engaging shots — that third one is my favorite.
I can see the neighborhood diversity in these pictures. I like the lower east side of NYC too.
Isn’t the lower east side such a great neighborhood? Maybe I’ll see you there one of these years!
i love the 3rd photo! they’re all so pretty! we have beautiful areas in new orleans: uptown, french quarter etc. i love viewing different places too. each has it’s own charm.
Love how you wrote this post, made me think of the cities I love and what I loved about them. So many stunning models in one calendar shoot, this is one for the boys for sure!
I agree . The beauty of different cities is in their distinct energies. These photos are gorgeous!

The pics are amazing, and perfectly convey the meaning of your post. I feel the same about getting to knowing a city by visiting its every neighborood and observing the passers by. Great post thank you!! xxx Coco
