“Cultures render their icons in their own image. Which comes down to vanity, in some sense.”
Joel Edgerton

Who are the icons you look to in pop culture?
We have such a mix of different celebrities and role models these days. There are the unfortunate, but unfailingly popular reality TV stars. Then there are the offbeat, experimental teenagers with celebrity parents. I thought it was funny how this icons editorials was photographed in such an offbeat, fairy tale manner. All of these celebrities are caught in different, quirky poses and situations. Yet they also totally also make sense.
Oprah Winfey is probably the fairy godmother of choice for many people (think of all the careers she launched and lives she touched). Katy Perry can certainly be seen as a modern day Liz Taylor with her wild fame and bold mannerisms.
But what is interesting is the quote that cultures render icons in their own image. We would certainly have a wild array of icons representing us. But if these icons include someone like Oprah, then it isn’t all bad then right?
Have a lovely week!
These are fantastic pictures!! I think there aren’t really any proper icons in this day and age, reality tv has taken over and fame seems to be given for nothing. I love old stars more really. But, I love these pictures, amazing!! Happy Monday doll xx
I love when magazines do this. That last shot is amazing…who is that?
The last shot is of Willow Smith – Will Smith’s daughter! She’s got a really cool, unique vibe and has really tried to stake out her own territory (and is still a teenager!)
love this round up of images!
I’m so glad you shared these. I heard about them, but hadn’t seen the pictures. Really cool.
