Photo Love {Inspiration): Dream, Create, and Read

February 7, 2011
The worth of a book is to be measured by what you can carry away from it.
James Bryce

Off Art” series from Veronica and Issac Salazar

I’ve always been a voracious reader from the early days of Troll and Scholastic Book Club (though I have to admit, I also placed orders because I loved getting the stickers and kitten posters too).  I even imposed a “classics” summer reading list on myself during my high school and college years and discovered the Bronte sisters, Hemingway, and Fitzgerald in those warm, long days.  But I found myself reading less and less in the first few years post college – reading seemed to take a backseat to work and life.

I’ve been reading more recently thanks to my Amazon Kindle and am rediscovering my love for books (anything from “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” to the Millenium series).  One of my favorite books is “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho.   It is a simply written and beautiful book that really hits home now as I try to determine and fulfill my (professional) dreams.
“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”
Such a lovely inspiration came from this book and I certainly hope I can dream and create something that brings me fulfillment in my life.

What book has inspired you?

Have a lovely week!

Oh my – can’t think of when I thought of those Troll books last!! And do you remember the SRA reading system in grade school where you progressed through levels marked by color? Wow – serious flash from the past. I have not read The Alchemist but clearly you are not along – a hugely popular book!

Ooh, I so love these prints – I want them all!

I believe that, as of late, Alex Flinn’s “Beastly” has inspired me quite a bit. Do check it out – it is fantastic!! 🙂

I love to read! I wouldn’t be able to name my favorite book, but Isabel Allende is my favorite author. I really enjoyed The Alchemist as well. And I just finished the entire Harry Potter series (I’m a little behind the times). I’ll basically read anything I can get my hands on 🙂

I love those art pieces! I totally want something like that for my bookshelves. I recently re-read Nightwood by Djuana Barnes. It is an amazing modernist novel and I could read it again every week.

I know there’s a lot of hype surrounding Ayn Rand but after reading a few of her books, I’m so intrigued! I can’t seem to get enough!

Gorgeous pix! I don’t get much time to read books sadly. J has been reading a lot lately and she’s loving every second of it. She said there’s nothing like the feeling of getting lost in a book 🙂

hmm, though question because all the books I read inspire me but I must say that Jar by Liviu Rebreanu ( ro writer)

You’re so right, working full-time definitely seems to put reading time on the backburner! I’ve started reading books on my Kobo reader; a recent series I’ve been reading is actually a trilogy, but the first book is called The Knife of Never Letting Go – very interesting if you’re ever lacking reading material!

those photos of the words created from book pages are just too pretty and inspiring.

I well remember getting into trouble because I would read under the covers with a flashlight – Nancy Drew did that to you by keeping you in suspense from one chapter to another!

Two books profoundly affected me (just off the top of my ehad) – George Washington Carver: In His Own Words and the biography of Mary Kay Ash. Two people who faced insurmountable odds and prevailed and were victorious anyway!

I really enjoy your writing voice!

  • LBDDiaries February 8, 2011 at 04:18

oh and p.s., I do have to say that my very first gut reaction to the photos was more like, “Oh my gosh she destroyed a BOOK!” I love books.

  • Macarena - Chic et Posh February 8, 2011 at 04:37

Hahaha! This is so cool! Now I know what to do with some awful books I have at home… XoXo!
