Without a doubt, the 1960s were an extraordinary time.  It was an era of momentous firsts and the beginning of a social revolution.  For the first time, the moon was no longer the mysterious, bright subject of bedtime stories, but the place where we could be reminded that science could help us attain a “giant leap for mankind”.  Racial and social barriers were broken as people slowly stopped analyzing differences between the races, but embracing commonalities. Kids of different ethnicities were learning together, playing together, and growing up through life together.

This editorial reminded me of that decade, its fashion, and the icons of the time.  Twiggy was of course one of the famous faces of the time and commented on the power of ordinary people to do extraordinary things.   While extraordinary events occurred at that time, I certainly think that ordinary people can continue to do extraordinary things now.  People simply have to keep believing, trying, and pushing to create those special things.

Don’t ever consider yourself to be ordinary.  You can be extraordinary.  I know I’ll keep trying to be extraordinary in my own way.

Have a lovely week!

Haha you are so right. The 60s/70s were full of great advancements, but it is also nice to look at great purses

Anna Wintour has said you can gauge the current political mood from a good editorial. For US Vogue this January, I’d say she hit the nail right on the head with this one. The red, white and blue woven through-out, the stripes, and the harkening back to the 60’s when civil rights was a strong movement, with figures such Martin Luther King, JFK….a time and era of of hope and progression forward. These outfits styled here suggest a strong confidence, and exude power (the model isn’t slouched in any of the photos).

    In other words, awesome editorial!!

Yes this 1960s style editorial definitely shows a strong, powerful female. It is also interesting how you said an editorial can also reflect the political (or perhaps social/cultural) mood of an era. I just found an editorial that is controversial, but still interesting and will post it next week.
