“The ultimate goal of farming is not the growing of crops, but the cultivation and perfection of human beings.â€
― Masanobu Fukuoka, The One-Straw Revolution
I was struck by the unexpected beauty in these images. Pop princess Katy Perry turned in her cupcake bra for Prada, Zac Posen, and Michael Kors (err not a bad trade right?) I love the richness and colors in these photos and it somehow felt just right in the farm setting. These luxurious gowns may not be worn for every day farming activities, but they fit with the natural beauty.
I was also struck by the quote above from Masanobu Fukuoka – it can be jarring to read that farming isn’t about growing food, it is about sustaining and perfecting us as people. But it did get me to think about how we evolve as people in many ways, all in ways to better ourselves. One aspect is the food we eat; those hot dogs that may have been our favorite after school snack once are replaced with more natural foods as we get older and our waistlines and sheath dresses protest (and at least hot dogs have caught up and there are nitrate free versions and low fat versions if you must have them!) The books we may have put aside at one time for being too long or irrelevant are ones we pick up now as we yearn to learn more about art, travel, or history.
So how do you cultivate yourself?
Have a lovely week!
I was as astonished as you! She looked so good! Just NORMAL! LOL She made that farm look tres chic. I loved this photo shoot.
Kim, right, she looks so chic! She is a pretty girl and it’s nice to see her in this style. Vogue stylists and Annie Leibovitz photography helps too!
She looks marvellous and I loved each outfit. I think farming and food in general need to get back to the basics. Cut out all these chemicals and additives in everything, it’s not good for the body and it’s about time everyone woke up to that. I discovered an ‘American’ isle in our supermarket and I was shocked by all the additives and the amount of salt in all the foods. I couldn’t by any of it. All genetically modified in some way, it was horrifying as these were ones I loved as a child and they never had these things on the box before. We need to get back to treating the earth better and taking care of our bodies better. It’s a must :)) Have a great week dollxx
Kizzy, I’m totally with you and once I start reading labels, I started getting sad! But I also think the US has some of the best healthy packaged food as well. I really wish Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods would expand abroad!
Oh and how sad that all the American goodies are super processed!
I love Katie Perry. She is such a cool girl and she looks gorgeous in this shoot. xo
Its so great to see Katy looking refined and elegant, this style suits her, I hope this is the end of her blue hair days. Wonderful quote, love the meaning of it, especially since we live near a farming area.
WOW, she looks so stunningly beautiful in those photographs and the last gown totally blew me away. Btw: that quote is wonderful. Happy start to July, darling.
I haven’t seen Katy in a while so it’s great to see her looking so beautiful. Always love what she does with her hair.

No, not a bad trade at all, and as much as i hate to admit it, I love the third photo the most.
I say this because when I take my own outfit photos I am forever saying how I hate uneven light and shadows being cast across my face. Yet, here it is, and it looks pretty damn good.
I couldn’t believe this was Katy Perry at first. She looks so elegant and refreshingly normal sans the technicolor hair.
