“You were born to be real, not to be perfect.”

What does it take to be a super model?
You know, those perfect Amazonian women with impeccable fashion sense?
Well, take a look at Kate Moss’ physique, Karlie Kloss’ statuesque height, and Cara Delivigne’s figure and you might have an idea. These ladies not only share amazing bone structure, but also share similarly slim bodies. Clothing just moves down the runway better on a tall, slender physique. Thin, tall models just keep popping up and the cycle of the skinny model continues.
But in the last few years, we started seeing models of a different sort: Gisele Bundchen, Lara Stone, and now Kate Upton launched the model with curves. Sexiness has slowly started to become associated with a healthy, athletic shape again (I’m glad to be bidding adieu to the waif look of the ’90s/’00s). It has been interesting to see this cross over into high fashion with the appearance of Kate Upton, a model renowned for swimsuit modeling, pictured on the cover of Vogue. Funny enough, but she has been called “fat” in some circles, but is still a highly sought after bikini model.
Is this the consumer’s demand for a little more reality? Were there one too many eating disorder incidents reported? Did we all just want a girl that looked like she could actually eat a cheeseburger?
While Kate Upton has a trainer to keep her in shape, she maintains that she still wants to keep those curves. She’s certainly not fat to me, and she is definitely real and gorgeous.
Have a lovely week!
She’s gorgeous. Not fat, but in shape. I think some misunderstand what having curves means. It isn’t being fat and having curves, because that’s not healthy and it isn’t being too skinny and having bones stick out because that’s not always healthy either. I think it’s more about being your body type’s correct weight for your height and exercising because it’s good for you and eating right. She looks so much better than most of the models we see these days. I much rather buy something she’s wearing than from a model that’s unhealthy. But, also if your naturally thin and eat healthy, but still stay thin, that’s perfectly ok too, as I was like that, very thin but I ate like a horse & I still do 😉 I think it should be focused on taking care of yourself and not so much on how much we weigh 🙂 Health is more important than weight :)) Loved this!! Have a great week doll xx
I couldn’t have said this any better Kizzy! We should all be healthy and in shape according to our body type. An extreme on either end of the spectrum certainly isn’t healthy. I’m like you and just have a light, petite body type. My metabolism would burn through all kinds of food. I am now more conscious about what I eat and exercise as well, but that is also so I feel good about myself in the long run. I’m glad you liked the post dear!
Totally agree. How very nice to see “real” women on runways and glossies. Now, I just wish they’d stop photoshopping the crud out of them. What’s the use of being proud to be who and how you are if they’re still gonna cut a smidgen of a thigh here and there?
Lindsey, so true! Sometimes magazines really photoshop things WAY too much. I recall Jennifer Lawrence making a joke about how she didn’t recognize herself because of all the photoshopping in her Dior campaign photos!
STUNNING.
P.S. I’m giving away EIGHT sponsors spots today and I would love for you to come enter!
she’s definitely not fat. i think so many women relate to her. she’s a gorgeous girl and i’m happy varous companies and magazines are working with her and not shying away because she’s not stick thin.
Kim, she isn’t fat in any sense! She also really works it at the gym, but doesn’t look like she is all muscle, just lean and healthy. I am glad we are going back to the days of models like Christie Brinkley who just looked healthy and in shape!
that first photo just seems like the epitome of laid-back cool. love her style!
Love the quote, though Karlie is perfect! I love her healthy glowing beauty!

Coco, I love Karlie too! She is naturally tall and thin and I’m not saying that is wrong. I just think it is nice that there are a variety of different size models now!
so interesting, i think her body looks wayyyy better than stick thin ones anyway. this is healthy! (uh…but not fat)
Great feature, I completely agree with curvier models, as they are better role models. Stick thin supermodels look malnourished and unhealthy, not to mention unreal. Kate has a figure we can all actually aspire to have or already do.
Fantastic post and love your blog!
Thank you for your sweet comment. I love your profile picture and will be stopping by your blog as well!
Honestly it’s pretty disturbing that Kate Upton has been called fat when really she just looks healthy. Too many models look like they’re badly in need of a sandwich so I think it’s refreshing to see someone who isn’t emaciated in the industry.

nice black and white outfits!
