There was a time when I used to miss my college days and early 20s. Β I would reminisce about the carefree days of starting a new job, meeting new people, and dancing till dawn. Β I also had a plan in those days of getting married at 24, having my first child at 26 and my second one at 28. Β I thought I would be at a high flying role in a very fashionable industry.
Life didn’t quite turn out that way, but I came to learn that it was perfectly ok. Β I really enjoyed reading about Meryl Streep’s story in Vogue for January 2012 and her unexpected life story. Β She was a late bloomer by Hollywood standards and acted in her first film at 28. Β But she never looked back and kept on excelling in her field to become one of the most celebrated actors of our time. Β She has arguably gotten better with age and kept on giving herself new roles and challenges – why would age keep her from learning and growing? Β Yes and one can still make her first Vogue cover, even at the age of 62.
I take her story to be a wonderful inspiration. Β I did have a great time in my 20s and can not now do some of the things I did back then. Β I have also undergone quite a few career and location changes (on my third continent now!) That is just part of the adventure. Β I may not have done everything at the time I thought I would, but I know that there is so much more to do. Β I will keep on growing and seeking those new opportunities. Β I look back on those days with fondness, but will do everything I can to ensure the future is exciting in different ways.
Have a lovely week!
Sounds like a great article – looking forward to getting my vogue so I can read it!
Here to all the late bloomers. I think older women exude confidence.

I love this–like you I had a similar plan in mind for myself. Suffice it to say none of it happened. I look to older/timeless women like Meryl and see so much promise for a well-lived full life!
She is so fabulous! Such a beautiful woman and an amazing actress! Love this photoshoot!

I love Meryl Streep, and the message of this post . . . I also can no longer do the things I did in my twenties, but so far my thirties are far better (in a different way). I’m looking forward to what’s next π
I had no idea she started at 28! Wow.
She is quite the inspiration, isn’t she? I just flipped through my Vogue last night but haven’t had a chance to read the article. Looking forward to it now π xoxo
i’m going to have to find that mag for my upcoming plane ride!
Things don’t always turn out the way we imagine but I’d like to think that everything happens for a reason. I haven’t read my issue yet but it’s kind of hard to believe this is only the first time Meryl Streep has ever appeared on a Vogue cover. She is such an icon and so inspiring.
I like you post so much! And these photos are amazing!
Take a look and if you want we can follow each others: Cosa mi metto???
I love her and find her story so inspiring. My life and career plans have definitely thrown me for a loop at times, too, but I try to tell myself that it’s all part of the adventure.
What a lovely post, I have felt the same way myself. The journey starts off in different ways and you never know where life will take you. Meryl is gorgeous and an icon.

Such an inspiring story! And I have learned that you can’t make a timeline for life..letting things happen organically and the way they should will always be better than trying to make your life fit into a pre-designed plan! xo
she’s so gorgeous. i saw her on 60 minutes last night. loved it.
She is aging elegantly, and aging like a real woman, not completely plastic, pulled and tucked. Just found your blog and I love it! Just like you, I loved reading about Meryl in the January Vogue! I also had a whole bunch of things I thought I’d accomplish in my early 20s…I am turning 31 next month and I feel like I have very little accomplished.
I loved the article and I love her – she is such an inspiration for aging gracefully.
So agree with you. Loved reading the post. π
