“It is an anxious, sometimes a dangerous thing to be a doll. Dolls cannot choose; they can only be chosen; they cannot ‘do’; they can only be done by.”

Do you like dolls?

I had a few Barbie and no name dolls when I was little, including a large Barbie head whose hair could be styled in a variety of ways.   I also had a few doll house rooms (seriously just rooms, not an entire house) that included tiny little tables and chairs surrounded by green and white checked wallpaper.  It is definitely fun setting up an imaginary life for a doll.  The doll can go where you choose and live how you want her to live.

But it was also interesting seeing this quote and thinking about how not only dolls, but some people, live the lives that are dictated for them.  I felt like I was in a doll’s world myself for some time – I attended the right schools and got the typical jobs, but always felt like I wanted more.  Now here I am living a very different life on the other side of the world and planning out next steps.  It goes to show that the most beautiful things in our lives are the choices that help us define ourselves and make us happy, not necessarily those that are made for us!

Have a lovely week!

Great quote and interesting perspective! I love dolls, especially American Girl dolls, and had two dollhouses growing up. Fun memories!

I have seen those images and I think they are amazing. I love Karlie and love that she is from Chicago. I wasn’t so much into dolls but I loved designing and sewing dresses for my sister’s dolls. I always knew I wanted to be in apparel and fashion or something to do with art. Agree that dolls don’t get to choose and I love that quote..makes you think deeper. I have been there too so I can relate. So happy to see that you are doing things that are making you happy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and story 🙂

Wow, when I haven’t read the words yet, I actually thought that was a real human being doing an ootd!
Yes, Barbie’s world is definitely perfect, but our lives will always be better than her, hey, she can’t have chocolate right?

    besos,
