“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.”
What was life like in your city years ago?
I saw these photos of everyday life in New York City in the 1950s and was instantly brought to an age of simplicity. This was a time without social media (yikes, I know I’m not on Snapchat!), data and wi-fi access (which I tend to lose when I’m on vacation), and multiple modern devices and toys to entertain/inform us. There certainly were fun fashions and classic beauty looks, but there wasn’t a multitude of glitzy stores, websites, and bloggers (whoa I guess that includes me!) explaining a particular ingredient, product or style. People seemed to be content with what was available to them.
The people in these photos also aren’t necessarily doing things that people only did 60 years ago. They are kicking their shoes off and hanging out with friends, catching up over coffee, watching movies as a treat at the end of a long week, and getting their shoes shined or hair done so that they can look their best. It reminds me that it is ok sometimes to unplug, take a break and get back to the simpler things in life. With that I’ve been and will be in a few cities in the Philippines. I’m looking forward to a beach trip to Cebu where my little family of three will get to relax. My husband adores the beach and is ecstatic about taking a trip to a beautiful sandy isle. We’ll just lounge around, enjoy the view, and most importantly stick to the simple act of appreciating one and other.
Have a lovely week!
Happy New Year doll 🙂 Love these pictures, everyone just taking the day as it comes. We rush everything now. Love the ladies in their dresses, so gorgeous. I hope you have a marvellous trip and New Year too xx
Beautiful pictures! Everything seems more interesting in black and white 🙂
Times were much more simpler back then. We’ve made great advancements, but I don’t know if it’s been better for society overall.
