Sometimes small, meaningful actions can have unexpected and far reaching consequences.
I was inspired by Brunch at Saks to Pay it Forward – perform a kind gesture for someone and hope that person in turn does something nice as well making for a very lovely domino effect. Β If Haley Joel Osment can do it, I can do it too (without the sappy movie fanfare of course).
Here is my list of what I’ll do to Pay it Forward:
– open/hold a door for someone unexpectedly
– volunteer at a soup kitchen or deliver food to needy families
– call a friend or family member that I haven’t spoken to in a while
– breathe and calm down when I’m frustrated and try to think and speak positively
– get to know the security guard, condo technician, and other on-site staff
– say “Thank you” loudly when someone opens the door for me
– mentor a youth in some way
– say at least one nice thing in every conversation with my parents or brother
– team up with friends and/or family to encourage each other to live healthier lifestyles
How will you Pay it Forward?
That is truly wonderful:) I always find those little gestures so special. I am joining in right now:) Great idea! Thanks, sweetie
Happy Tuesday
It’s funny how at this time of year people make resolutions that are all about them and making their life better. I think you’re pretty wonderful because you care about making other people’s lives better. Happy New Year π
Oh wow! that’s a noble act to do! I’m inspired to do the same! i want to say thank you more often, and be more humble by saying sorry if i’m at fault. and by saying i love you (or showing that i care) to my family often π

All great simple doable suggestions. I totally believe in what goes around comes around and always try to incorporate a little into my daily life!
Great list – I might adopt some of it!
These are great ways to pay it forward – I really believe in the power of sending positive vibes out there. I could probably stand to pay it forward a little more, especially while commuting on the crowded bus!
Great idea, and thanks for the reminder that random acts of kindness can really make a difference in someone’s life.
such a Lovely idea!
Making someone happy is always a wonderful feeling!!

such a great habit to form in our daily lives!
I love the idea of doing small things to pay it forward =-)
This is a really good idea, a small effort can make a world of difference to someone. I try to smile all the time because instead of looking at a world of gloomy faces lets cheer it up a bit! xoxo
I love this idea! Sometimes, all you have to do is smile at someone to brighten their day…I think people often forget that paying it forward isn’t that hard to do! Thanks for this. xo
“- breathe and calm down when I’m frustrated and try to think and speak positively”
i really need to practice this at the moment as the chef’s cat has just jumped into a bookcase and knocked over an antique blue and white chinese vase. shoot me now
nice resolutions, and LOL I liked that movie pay it forward! I guess it was a bit sappy at some parts haha
Lovely post! Such a great inspiration for the new year! I need to come up with a list of my own π
Great list! I love this idea π

Great post. We should all go out and do the same this week!
i believe that we get compensated for everything we do… no matter what it is… good for you!
Such a fantastic idea! Giving is so important to the world’s happiness.
Oh I love your list! I’m so happy you made one as well π Happy New Year to you, gorgeous girl! xoxo, Annemarie
Great list for a great new year! I believe 2011 will be wonderful! I hope we can all pay it forward… better! Taking better care of our environment, be kind and giving and laugh easier. I think if we were not so sensitive we might manage to deal with anger easier. Laugh more no war:)
Happy New Year!
What a beautiful list! I think I’ll offer up some babysitting services to my friends that have kiddos. I’m so lucky to have my mom and sis who are not only free, but who I completely trust the dude with!
I love this! My bestie and I were just saying how this year we are going to start complimenting people more because one little compliment can go a looooong way.
nice list! i always try to hold the door for someone/hold the elevator at work, say please/thank you, etc. it’d be nice to do more though!
excellent idea and I think just being nicer in general and doing small things for others is a good way to pay it forward. I also like the idea of calling and making an effort to keep in touch with close friends and family more.
i love this!! such a great idea to pay it forward, and great ways to do it, too π i hope to do some of yours and would add sending birthday and thank you notes, donate items i no longer use.
Just found your blog-love it! This post is great-there are SO many ways I need to start paying it forward!
Paying it forward! Such an easy list and yet why don’t we do it ALL the time? I will definitely write this one down and keep it posted near by.
PS Your living in Asia now?
What a beautiful post, I salute you!

Happy, Happy New Year!

I really like this one:
‘- say at least one nice thing in every conversation with my parents or brother’
I’m guilty of paying it forward and being nice to total strangers, but not enough to my own family.
Paying it forward begins in the home!
