Have you ever tried to be a different version of yourself? I saw this editorial of Michelle Dockery for In Style September 2019 and thought about the rise of grunge and alternative music. I grew up when alternative music started coming out of Seattle and other areas. While I wasn’t an avid fan, I still appreciated it and how it provided a whole new genre of music and fashion. More kids felts free to identify with this genre and express themselves like they hadn’t be able to previously.
I’m lucky that I never felt immense pressure to be a particular person. Of course I was pushed to study hard, practice playing the piano, and pursue sports or activities that would get me out the door. My parents definitely belatedly thought that I should be more well rounded and started signing me up for different types of lessons when I entered high school. Inevitably, I would be told stories of a whiz kid. So while there was comparison and the light pressure, they wanted me to excel in what I could do.
There’s always someone who looks like a perfect version of a role I play. I have classmates who have had amazing careers and are cited in the press. I certainly see those picture perfect families on Instagram as well who have been to 100 countries without a hair in place. Spoiler: I’m an avid traveler and I never proclaim that it’s easy doing it with kids! There may always be that mild pressure to be the best career woman or wife or mom. But I am happy trying to be the best version of myself. Well maybe me with better abs (I’ve been working on my core lately).

I’m naturally introverted so I try to be a more confident and outgoing version of myslef when I’m working and attending meetings but other than that I just try to be me. cause I have a hard time pretending otherwise.

they are great pics! I dress not much differently now from what I did in highschool, haha! Maybe a few more skirts and dresses, I was a bit of a tomboy! no harm in trying different things now and then!
