We’re going to Madrid tomorrow.
Mr. Gadget bought tickets a few minutes ago. It’s so against my usual trip-planning prep to just take off, but it’s kinda cool in a so-bad it’s good kinda way (and obviously I’m voraciously reading the guidebook on the plane).
The beauty of us having free time right now is that we can enjoy our time.
The beauty of living in Europe is having access to low-cost airlines like Ryanair and EasyJet.
Very chic ‘n cheap living.
So if you have some time with your loved one, go somewhere, explore, and of course have fun.
It’ll be Mr. Gadget’s first time and my first time in 15 years (oh the memories, I went to my first ever nightclub in Madrid – I thought I was the coolest. teenager. EVER.)Â I don’t know where those photos are, but they are undeniably awkward teen photos – braces, hot pink t-shirts – very 90s.
Any ideas for things to do?
ooh i’m so jealous – Madrid! i’ve never been to spain but it looks fab. have a great time!
Have an incredible time!! So jealous right now.
OMFG one of my fav cities. I lived there for nine months. The museums, retiro, la marcha… amazing.
I only got to spend one day (and one alcohol-fueled club night probably similar to the one you experienced) in Madrid in 1997, but I remember really loving the Reina Sofia (Picasso’s Guernica is so much better in person!) Have a blast!
LUCKY! i’ve never been to madrid. i would love to go some day. have fun! take lots of pics!
Ooooh, I’m so happy for you! RyanAir was the best for great deals when I was in Europe. I’ve never been to Madrid, but loved Barcelona. The food, the culture, the gorgeous churches, all of it. Enjoy every second!!!
Oh man- the first and last time I was in Madrid was with a girlfriend during spring break. It was… nearly 8 years ago I think! People didn’t speak much English then… or at least didn’t pretend to. I loved hanging out in Chueca Plaza.. and eating tapas and taking my siesta. Best trip! Have a great time! I’m sure you will love it 🙂
Have fun! So loved Clueless back in the day
Be safe and have fun!
have a great and safe trip!
How awesome! Have fun, girl!! =D
I’m with Cupcake – OMFG I’m so darn jealous! I lived there for two years and LOVE LOVE LOVE Madrid. La Reina Sophia is my fave museum, the retiro is a great park, the shoe boutiques and trendy stores in the Chueca and Malasana areas, the palaces (darn what are they called?) right outside the city (easy train ride away), tapas and wine in La Latina (good lord, the heavenly evenings with tapas and wine), the giant El Rastro flea market, there’s a random convent with cookies in the center of town somewhere (the nuns bake you cookies!), there’s a flamenco bar near Sol that I liked, and dancing. Just promise to go out a la marcha (for the nightlife) and live it the heck up (you can’t go wrong, though you’ll have to endure some cheesy euro club trash music). It’s a beautiful city and I don’t think I was ever happier than when I lived there.
And there are great day trips nearby too, depending on how long you stay: Toledo and then Segovia are my faves.
i’m so jealous! have fun 🙂
I’m finally catching up on some long-overdue blog reading – and I’m eager to see what you’ve been up to! You’re going to have a fantastic time in Madrid. I’ve never been there, but I imagine it’s incredible. 🙂 It’s not my style to pick up and go without preplanning either! I can’t wait to hear all about your trip.
You lucky lucky lady! Can’t wait to see pics!
