*I’m guest posting at Effortless Anthropologie later today. Stop by in the afternoon Eastern time to see what I’d wear on a beach holiday!*
Would you rather be overdressed or underdressed?
I would rather be overdressed, put those high heels to work, and flaunt a fabulous shade of lipstick (case in point when I wore a fabulous silk chevron dress to a dive this past Saturday). Marchesa caters to the confident woman who believes in the fantasy of fashion and who believes there isn’t such a thing as being overdressed. The fashion line has dressed A-listers from Jennifer Lopez to Reese Witherspoon for years and are known for their intricate details, extraordinary embellishments, and use of superior fabrics (think lace and embroidery in the most beautiful ways).
So it is pretty exciting to hear about their latest collaboration which is very much about Luxing it on the Cheap (LOTC) – Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa for JC Penney. I love the sharp structure and the rosette details of some pieces are quite covetable. But the overuse of tulle and bright colors in other pieces make it quite “promy” which I suppose is fine for the teenage crowd. For now, I’ll likely keep an eye on the bolero and lace jacket.
Here are a few favorite pieces from the collection:
Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa floral applique dress, JC Penney, $70
Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa rosette bolero, JC Penney, $50
Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa peplum lace print top, JC Penney, $50
Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa lace mermaid dress, JC Penney, $180
Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa strapless rose appliqué dress, JC Penney, $70
Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa ruffle shoulder dress, JC Penney, $70
Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa scallop lace jacket , JC Penney, $70
Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa high low sequin dress, JC Penney, $140
Pearl by Georgina of Marchesa taffeta bow dress, JC Penney, $70
What do you think of this collection?
I love the rose applique dress and taffeta bow dress (last one). They are so cute without being over the top. It’s still pretty young for me. HaHaHa But if you have the figure and youth, go for it. I love that JcPenney is doing collaborations. That’s a breath of fresh air for them.
I agree – many styles are still pretty young (hello high school!) but there are a few cute things in there. I’m also impressed by JC Penney – at least they’re really going for the fashionista crowd!
The color of the Rose Applique Dress is gorgeous! 🙂
I would also rather be overdressed. Marchesa is one of my favorite design labels and its so editing to see Georgina partake in this spin off collection, I’d love to have the red rosette dress and the long black sequined gown, so beautiful.
ok now i’m curious – i’m gonna have to go and see these in person – i do have a wedding coming up – i wonder if they are as good in person – and is that dress with the high sleeves the one worn by the sisters in Big Rich Atlanta?
I had to google “Big Rich Atlanta” after seeing your comment. I couldn’t find out if the sharp sleeve dress was the dress worn on the show. But I did see Notte by Marchesa mentioned and that is the somewhat more affordable Marchesa line mentioned so I’d say it could either be a Notte dress or maybe the JC Penney version!
I love the lace jacket, the sequin high-low dress and the taffeta dress in the last photo. Hopefully this collab will bring JC Penny back from the “dead”.
Oh, the lace one for $70, so cute! So in love with it! And for such a nice price!
That lace mermaid dress is STUNNING. And as someone who used to work for JCPenney, I hope that this helps bring it back!
I must say, although some of these cute, I’m actually quite disappointed with Marchesa. Way too prom-y.
Cheryl, yep those were my sentiments. The Pearl/Marchesa for JC Penney collection is definitely for a younger crowd there are a few pieces that are decent.
I would definitely rather be overdressed. Hence, love this collection!
LOVE THESE!! I’m a big Marchesa fan… this would be perfect for someone going to prom
