How are you approaching this year? I saw this editorial of Julia Frauche for Elle Italy September 2019 and this quote and started to think about all the events that transpired the year. Last year was certainly a year filled with ups and downs. I’ve come very close several times to new opportunities only to have them disappear at the last moment. I thought I would make big career changes and suddenly was back to square one – it was disappointing to say the least.
It’s not like I enjoy having these low moments in life. It can be hard and my confidence certainly took a hit. But I have at least learned from these moments and that has helped me get through them. One of the things I learned is that opportunities only come to those who seek it. I wasn’t looking for a big change, but befriended a friend of a friend. Suddenly, I was being presented a potential opportunity in a very cool new group. Yet, it didn’t happen for a variety of reasons. But now I knew that opportunities can come from anywhere. I just have to keep going out there and being open for them.
I also grew by becoming more responding differently to disappointments. Previously, I would be upset by setbacks and it would be really hard for me to recover from them. But now I’ve started to recover more quickly from them. I will still be upset, but will keep moving on. I consider the factors and try to adjust to do things differently next time. Perhaps one opportunity doesn’t work out. But the next one may so I keep going forward. This attitude has helped me to deal with setbacks more readily.
I know the new year will come with more wins and losses. I’m ready for it and will keep learning and growing. Hopefully, the good will outweigh the bad and it will be a great year.

I’m approaching 2020 slowly and with caution so far. I’m actually just biding my time and waiting for the Lunar new Year as I’m anticipating a turn of fortune with the arrival of the year of the rat.
2019 was fabulous but ended in a low note and 2020 has not been good so far but like everything else in life, I know this will soon pass.
