“To be kind to all, to like many and love a few, to be needed and wanted by those we love, is certainly the nearest we can come to happiness.”
I have always tried to live by the Golden Rule. I thought about this when viewing this beautiful editorial of Julia Banas & Lea Julian for US Harper’s Bazaar September 2018. It’s an homage to the upcoming “Mary, Queen of Scots” movie and made me curious about the titular character. She is most famous for her (attempted) power grab from Queen Elizabeth I. But she also at least acknowledged the Golden Rule. I treat everyone how I wish to be treated. So that means holding a door for someone right behind me. It can also mean giving someone a simple smile or greeting, It also means trying to keep my normally reactive instincts at bay and trying to treat others with kindness and patience. Admittedly, I’m not always successful. But I think about my behaviors more and more since I’ve had kids. I want them not only to live the Golden Rule and treat others how they would like to be treated, I also want them to be kind and loving to their friends and family. This is especially true here where we have no immediate family. In turn, I hope that they will find good friends who will need and love them as well.
Have a lovely week!
Stunning editorials, but as usual, I enjoy your thoughts shared with us more. I’ve recently started this little thing of my own – try to do at least one good thing to others. It’s surprisingly hard but feels amazing if I get to do it. 🙂
Oh thank you Lena! I don’t usually share too much, but it’s nice to hear that someone is enjoying them! I really like how you’re doing at least one good thing to others. That’s something I should certainly try!
I saw the trailer for the “Mary, Queen of Scots movie recently. IT looks amazing! I try to treat people how I would like to be treated but if they’re just plain nasty then I move on.
