In {Hong Kong}/Worthwhile Activity: A neighborhood tea house and the best salted caramel ice cream at Teakha

September 19, 2012

A perfect weekend afternoon activity for me is to sink into a good book on my Kindle (or good people watching depending on the location) and sip on a cup of light aromatic tea (I love chamomile and green tea).  If you add in salted caramel ice cream to the mix, well, that perfect afternoon is then taken to a whole new level!

I was in Hong Kong last month and had to stop by Teakha in the Sheung Wan neighborhood not only to recreate my perfect weekend afternoon, but also because my friend, Nana Chan, is the mastermind behind this teahouse. This lovely teahouse features organic, handmade teas that are artisanally brewed and paired deliciously with a variety of baked goods and other light snacks.

The atmosphere is immediately warm and intimate and filled with warm touches like mason jar light fixtures and hand crafted tea sets/blends for sale.  It is like a beautiful, edible Etsy store brought to life!

Nana’s team makes all of the teas to order as well as the pastries (though can you believe she used to do it all herself!) The green tea cheesecake was light and sweet and the teas are aromatic and flavorful.  But the winning dish was most definitely her salted caramel ice cream with cinnamon crunchies.  It was sweet, salty, crunchy and cool bliss!

The tea shop isn’t the easiest place to find, but I loved the small boutiques and kitchenware stores in the neighborhood. It is definitely a place worth visiting to create your own perfect afternoon!

I would love to experience the culture and flavors of an authentic tea house, such a pity I read this post long after I went to HK. It would have been on my must-see list. I never heard of salted caramel ice cream before, sounds interesting!
