Information and inspiration are everywhere… history, art, architecture, everything an illustrator needs. Europe is, after all, the land that has generated most of the enduring myths and legends of Western culture.

What aspects of your environment inspire you? I saw this editorial of Hedvig Palm for Elle Sweden July 2019 and was brought back to the streets of Paris. I lived in Europe (France and England) briefly a decade ago. While I had visited previously, I was once again struck by the tangible history throughout the streets. I lived in a village that had houses that were at least 150 years old. We would visit chateaus that would date back even further (some more than 300 years old!). I’d hurry through the cobblestoned city streets of my home and be amazed at history evident in every turn.
While I was always fascinated by architecture and design, I really started paying more attention to these details when I transitioned from a visitor to a resident. I think my love of photography deepened as I walked endlessly all around Leicester Square, Covent Garden, and all the way down to Elephant & Castle. I had more time to notice the textures on the rooftops and the feel of the uneven streets beneath my feet. It was funny to think that I lived in some of these adorable and historic homes.
I’m back to city living now outside Europe. But whenever I see pictures of (Western) European streets, I am brought back to that time in my life and the beautiful pieces of history I walked past everyday. Hopefully we can visit next year then!

I actually find NYC to be very inspiring. It’s a city that runs on it’s own wavelength and energy as you well know and I’m still constantly surprised even though I’ve lived here all my life.
