What do you think of retro styles? I saw this edition of Hannah Quinlivan for Vogue Taiwan February 2020 set in Cuba and loved these retro, yet contemporary vibes. The silhouettes are long, flowing, and still undeniably feminine. Colors and prints are bold and unapologetic. The styles are somewhat retro and classic, yet don’t feel out of place among today’s trends.
I haven’t bought into too many of today’s trends. I do have a few peplum sleeve shirts and large ruffle statement tops. But otherwise, I’d rather live in my midi dresses, Breton striped shirts, and pencil skirts. I’ll also admit to wearing tights when traveling, yet don’t even know where my skinny jeans are anymore. I quite carefully consider my purchases and simply don’t buy much clothing. One brand I will likely be purchasing from soon though is Sézane, introduced to me by Rowena and totally my vibe. The collections have a vintage and romantic feel, but are supposed to be made of quality fabrics.
Maybe I’m really just longing for quality and clothing that lasts. I definitely loved wandering through Gap during my teenage years and getting trendy, yet affordable pieces from Zara. But I have very few pieces that have lasted beyond a few years and they somehow felt dated quickly. So I vowed to not be enchanted by sale goggles and truly think about how a piece will fit into my wardrobe before purchasing it. Nowadays, many of us have a lot more time to shop, but I’ll still consider every piece carefully and make sure it fits my somewhat retro style.

I love this editorial and love this lady’s face! I always think a model’s face kind of “makes” the whole look and she is acing everything here. Of course, these retro pieces of clothing are all gorgeous. After a major decluttering this year, I have been more conscious of my shopping. I still like finding a good bargain and don’t spend on clothes much but Finding things that I can cherish for years seems clearly something I want to do from now on.

What fun editorial pics! I am loving the jewel tones in the outfits too 🙂 I’m trying to buy less as well, and buy second hand more. Of course now with this virus I’m not doing any shopping at all unless it’s for food (which surprisingly two little boys go through a lot of each day, haha!). It’s interesting times for sure.

These outfits are so fun, though I’m not sure how much I would love them outside the aesthetic of their editorial shoot. The environment plays just as much into the look as the mixed prints and bold colors.
I am very guilty of buying pieces that aren’t ‘forever’ pieces. Maybe there are no ‘forever’ pieces for me.
