“Find beauty not only in the thing itself but in the pattern of the shadows, the light and dark which that thing provides.”
Junichiro Tanizaki
What are some things that you find beautiful? I was struck by the simple beauty in this editorial of Halima Aden for UK Elle November 2018. It is full of bold colors and fabulous silhouettes. The turbans and scarfs are also quite amazing. This accessory really adds such an elegant element to the outfits. I’m also intrigued by the contrasting patterns (something I still haven’t really pulled off!)
I thought that this quote about beauty was really interesting. An outfit or object may be beautiful for many different reasons. We may enjoy the print or color of something. But sometimes, it’s more than that. It’s the shape it casts against the lights. Or maybe it’s the contrast between the different colors contained within a pattern. We saw a wonderful cathedral on our trip to Danang (it’s commonly known as “pink church”). The color and structure are of course gorgeous and the most striking visual aspect. But I also enjoyed looking at the different patterns on each door and window. I also loved how the colors (pink and gray!) paired together beautifully. I’ll be sharing more on my Instagram soon. I’ll also continue to seek beauty in many different ways.
Have a lovely week!
I try to keep my eye open and find beauty in the every day. These are ugly times we live in and I just need to remind myself of all that’s good in the world. We had a sunset with the most beautiful double rainbow in NYC last week.
