FFF – Flower Obsession by Yayoi Kusama and playdates in Singapore

May 4, 2018

Happy Fun, Free Friday lovelies!

Flower Obsession by Yayoi Kusama

I only learned about Yayoi Kusama’s work a few years ago, but became a quick fan.  I went to her installation in Singapore last year and loved it (catch a few pictures on my Instagram – one of my snaps of the exhibit was even featured on Glitter Guide!) So of course I’d be intrigued by Flower Obsession by Yayoi Kusama.  It is a similar concept to the obliteration room I visited in Singapore; visitors interact with the exhibit by putting stickers on different surfaces of a living and dining room.  Eventually, all you will really notice are the dots, or in this case flowers, themselves. Kusama recalls her inspiration for this piece “‘One day, after gazing at a pattern of red flowers on the tablecloth, I looked up to see that the ceiling, the windows, and the columns seemed to be plastered with the same red floral pattern. I saw the entire room, my entire body, and the entire universe covered with red flowers, and in that instant my soul was obliterated … This was not an illusion but reality itself’.

This exhibit is part of the NGV Triennial Voices in association with the University of Melbourne.  It’s certainly a good reason to visit Melbourne right?

Otherwise, this weekend I am…

…back in Singapore and back into the swing of things.  When you become a parent, your social life revolves for the most part around your kid’s social lives as well (but yes, don’t only hang out with other parents!) We were invited by the parents of one of my daughter’s swim class classmates to have a playdate. Expat life means always meeting other expats and new faces. It is nice to meet new people from all over the world here and swim a little in the process!

What are you up to this weekend?

Have a lovely weekend!

    Wow, those flowers are amazing!
Hope you have a fun swim play date this weekend! I’m sure it’s always good when you can be friends with the parents of your kids friends.

They’re so pretty! Would love to see this in person.
Kids definitely keep you busy, but you get to see the world through their eyes! That is what is so magical.
