FFF – Christian Louboutin: L’Exhibition(iste)

February 28, 2020

Happy Fun, Free, Friday lovelies!

Christian Louboutin’s red-soled shoes are undoubtedly iconic. They’ve been worn by practically every celebrity while also being immortalized on book covers and movies depicting the fashionable set. But what about the designer himself? He’s always seemed fun and quirky. I liked that he also heralded a greater range of nude shoes at a time when the definition of those shoes was much more limited (he has since expanded the range). The designer’s eclectic inspirations and designs are highlighted in his new exhibit – Christian Louboutin: L’Exhibition(iste) at the Palais de la Porte Dorée.

Louboutin actually grew up near the Palais de la Porte Dorée and frequently visited as a child. It is no surprise than that the museum’s collections from ex-French colonies all over the world, as well as aspects of the museum itself inspired a few famous designs. He recalls a sign that warned visitors not to wear high heels. The designer saw it and thought “This is a nice shoe.”; this picture became the inspiration for his classic Pigalle shoe. He was also inspired by the fish in the aquarium at the museum. Louboutin designed the Maquereau shoe from metallic leather and sneakily took a few shots of it in front of the aquarium.

But I’d really like to see this exhibit because it’s meant to be fun and inclusive. He stated that “I hope it is dedicated to people who love shoes but who are not necessarily clients, but who like to see beautiful things, to see how they are made. It’s to give a view into a dream world.” In one room, has shoes are set up in the midst of a traditional Bhutanese temple (look closely and see a hologram of Data Von Tesse performing). Yet another room, the Molinier room, appears at first glance to be a traditional living room with a safe print, but is actually filled with prints of different parts of the body inspired by photographer Pierre Molinier. The rest of the exhibit highlights simply things he enjoys from Wedgewood China to Andy Warhol photography. The exhibit runs through 26 July 2020.

Otherwise, this weekend I am…

…getting back to normal here. I’m still a little tired from our trip (you know when you need a vacation after your vacation?) But we’re getting back into the swing of things from dance classes to troop meetings and all of that. I’m also hoping to declutter yet a little more as well. The process of decluttering can be quite long, but bit by bit, it gets a little easier since there is less stuff to sort through!

What are you up to this weekend?

Have a lovely weekend!
