“Stuff doesn’t matter – boats, cars, fancy things don’t matter. What matters, what will matter to me, is the love of the people around me, and did I take a chance?”
James Comey
What matters to you? I saw this editorial of Fancy that for US Vogue April 2019 and thought of all the beautiful dresses and events requiring those dresses. I used to care much more about gorgeous dresses, sparkling shoes, and unique purses. I even worked for a time in retail and was surrounded by gorgeous gowns – it was definitely a fun time! Previously, I would have a grand shopping list for all the major purchases I wanted from jewelry pieces to a certain elusive Hermès scarf. I am still looking for a few luxurious purses, scarves, and pieces of jewelry and will proudly rock them; hopefully, I can pass it to my daughter too (actually she’s already claimed them!)
But, something changed in the last few years. We had a few kids. We bought a place. Somehow, my wish list just didn’t hold the same significance for me. We continued to travel, but now do it with the added craziness of the munchkins in tow. It started to make more sense to celebrate moments, not things. I’ve started really thinking about how I can effect the world in my own small, but meaningful way. I’ve also finally begun to really look at myself and think about how I can be a better person. Am I kind enough? Am I supportive enough? What can I learn? I am still wondering how I can take a chance and also create greater changes, but I am excited about the possibilities.
Have a lovely week!
What matters to me is living my best life, being happy and being true to myself. Pf course I’d also like to be a good citizen of the world.
THe possibilities are endless, life happens and that’s okay. THat’s my motto. I’ve always loved the idea of passing things down to your children. I still have pieces that my grandmother and my own mother gave me.
The editorial is artful and really striking in all its parts, especially texturally.
