Spring has me thinking about flowers.
Unfortunately, nice fresh flowers aren’t always easy to find around me. I resorted to making paper flowers so they could brighten a room even when I couldn’t find fresh flowers (see my large paper pansies here). I started thinking about other flowers with large petals that could easily be made with cardstock.
I decided on a bright, exaggerated magnolia. They are also quite large with a radius of about two feet. They are meant to make a bold statement and will be a great addition to the flower wall for my daughter’s room.
The large magnolias also looked great sprinkled along the walls of the large room where we held my daughter’s party.
Gather these materials:
- Cardstock in the petal color of your choice
- Scissors
- Pencil and eraser
- Strong glue/glue gun
These are the steps I took to create these giant pansies:
1. Draw a single large petal on the cardstock(s). A free form petal is fine, but you can also out the first petal and use it as a stencil for subsequent petals. Repeat steps for smaller single petal.
a. Note that petals should be in the shapes of tear drops though the tops could also be sharper as well. My petals were about 10″ wide and 12″ tall for the larger petals and 8″ wide and 10″ tall for the smaller petals.
b. Leave a base of about 1.5″-2″ so it is easy to attach at the center.
2. Cut out 6-8 larger petals and 3-5 smaller petals.
a. Curl petals but rolling them lengthwise towards the center.
3. Gather all petals and place them for glueing together. Place a petal on top of another petal at about a 45 degree angle from the right corner. Glue the intersection.
4. Continue with all petals.
5. Arrange and re-curl petals as needed.
6. Cut out oval shape in contrasting color for stamen; the size is about the shape of a petal. Cut long, parallel lines towards the center about 3″ long.
7. Glue stamen to center of flower and re-curl petals as needed.
These are too adorable – I love the idea of them in a nursery!

So pretty!
These look awesome! I love the idea of a flower wall.
So pretty! Your little lady is so lucky to have such a creative mommy!
Would love to meet up with you next week. I’m booked with work but depending on the day, I might be able to play hooky for an hour or so.

Adorable. I like both fresh flowers and silk flowers, so this is a great alternative. I’ve only used tissue paper to make flowers for soft petals, not card stock, so I will try this one too. Have a great day. <3
