“I loathe narcissism, but I approve of vanity.”
—Diana Vreeland
Are you a fashionista? The Collections in UK Harper’s Bazaar February 2017 is certainly for fashionistas. It highlights this season’s standout pieces from various collections. I didn’t necessarily start out as a fashionista, though I always maintained a classic and feminine style. Over time, I kept to fitted silhouettes, timeless cuts with modern twists, and the occasional fun print. I paid more attention to fashion and my appearance though. Usually I updated my look with a statement necklace, great hat, or beautiful shoes. Eventually, I also started learning about and applying a little makeup. I started paying more attention to looking good and feeling good.
I thought Diana Vreeland’s quote about narcissism and vanity were really interesting. No one likes a narcissist. But, we are allowed a free pass to be a little vain. After I first had my little one, I was home for the first two months wearing my husband’s oversized shirts. I was too tired to make an effort. But, in time, I started feeling like myself again. I wore my nicer clothing a little bit more. I also started to wear my favorite hats and accessories again. So go out, look great, and be a little vain.
Have a lovely week!
I’m certainly not a fashionista (and don’t read many fashion blogs, either), but I do feast my eyes through awesome curators like you. I think self-love and narcissism are too different things, although we often confuse those two.
So true – we should all seek self love vs. narcissism. I still thought Diana Vreeland’s quote was fun though 😉
Love all of this!! i love fashion and style, but i think seeing it from an art form point of view keeps me from being vain about it. when it becomes trends and how much one has, it becomes boring. i certainly hate the aspect of if you don’t have the latest, then your not included. or if people just wants to be themselves, their deemed boring. so pretty to look at, but sometimes beyond that is not so nice. but, i do love fashion x
Kizzy, agreed! I love fashion and style as art as well – have fun with it, stay true to yourself, and elevate it!
I think taking care of yourself and putting yourself together makes anyone feel better. It makes you feel good. We should all do what makes us happy in our own special way. No matter how little or how much. The DIOR pic in this editorial is absolutely fabulous. Those gowns!
