CnC Living Travel Log: Typical Thai food in Phuket

November 28, 2012

Sweet.

Salty.

Sour.

Spicy.

I love Thai food and it is one of the few cuisines I don’t tire of easily. It is so tasty and interesting because of the complexity of these mixed flavors, without being overwhelming.

I first had Thai food somewhere in NY.  Actually it may even have been in Central NY when I was in college (isn’t it crazy how far Thai food has spread).  But I have since discovered great, authentic Thai food in pockets of Woodside, Queens and Singapore.

I am always happy to visit Thailand and eat classic dishes.  My standby dishes at a Thai restaurant usually include Pad Thai noodles (love the salty and slightly sweet/sour flavor!), green curry with chicken, morning glory (kangkong in places like Malaysia and Singapore), and a refreshing/don’t want to know the calorie content Thai iced tea.

I wanted to share a few pictures from pretty hotel displays of food…

Kim, I think you’d like Thai food! Thai iced tea is so good as well – it is like rich tea with half and half or condensed milk! It is so decadent!

Even though I ate lunch before reading this post, my mouth is still watering at all these yummy food pics. I bet the Thai food in Asia is really amazing. We usually go to SriPraPhai in Queens to get our fix. Is that one of places in Woodside you used to frequent?

Christmas in the Philippines with family sounds like it will be really nice 🙂

Yes, SriPraPhai is definitely a standby for Thai food in NYC! I love a place where it feels very local and the food is the star!

Thanks for the good wishes. We will be spending Christmas in Singapore, but New Year’s Eve and day in the philippines which should be fun!

I wish I were more adventurous with different cuisines, I spent two weeks in Thailand and tried none of the local food. I think I just needed advice like yours to inspire me to try it out. Great foodie pics!
