Fancy a stroll through a former king’s home?
Who would say no to that right? I wanted to encounter a change of pace with my husband so even though we had a short trip to France and very little time in Paris, I dragged him to Versailles (which is a train ride away from Paris on the RER C). Versailles was the seat of power for Louis XIV when he left Paris though the royal family was forced to return to Paris in 1789 at the beginning of the French Revolution. Thus, it is also seen as a vestige of royal power in France.
But I really wanted to see the architecture and gardens of Versailles and take a peek at the château (which was unfortunately being renovated).
While we didn’t get to see some of the sites, we were still completely charmed by this city. It lacked the hustle and bustle of Paris, but still has a tranquil energy. It is basically one of the coolest suburbs/countrysides I’ve ever visited.
I loved walking around town (which luckily had a few boulangeries and restaurants).
I also loved getting lost on the grounds of the château in Versailles. The walk can be pretty tiring though so I can definitely see why there were little golf cart rentals (we took a 1 way tram which was great too).
Can you believe there were sheep in the grand gardens of Versailles?
Even though it was crowded in some spots, there were still some spots where you could get good shots and perhaps even settle down for a picnic!
I would visit again in a heart beat. We may even go next year! I’ll also review our hotel in an upcoming post which I would heartily recommend. Stay tuned for a peek at a grand hotel and a bar at a Gordon Ramsay restaurant.
Note: When you pay the 7.5€ entrance fee for the Jardin du Musique, you get access to the main château and gardens.
Beautiful pictures. I want to go here so bad :))) It’s a must. Have read lots and lots on this place and now I must go :)))) Am glad you got to go and took these pictures to share :))) Wonderful. I hope you have a great day doll Xxx
I’ve heard it was magnificent!
Stunning! It is absolutely gorgeous and you captured everything so beautifully. I have stars in my eyes just from the pictures so I can only imagine it in person. I love the architecture, sculptures and manicured trees. So exquisite.
I hope you get to go some day. Versailles really does have such beautiful architecture and horticulture. Exquisite is the right word to describe it!
Crikey, what a swooworthy place and the garden…wow! I would totally spend a whole day there…just daydreaming and taking all the beauty in. Happy Wednesday, dear.
Diana, yes it is so swoon worthy! I hope you get to visit soon too!
What a gorgeous place! Versailles is definitely on my list of places to visit when I go back to France someday.
Heather, I hope that you and S get to visit soon! It is such a great place to walk around!
Versailles is the place to be. If I get back to France then I’ll have to visit it since I didn’t get around to it last time.

Gorgeous images, you make me want to go again and spend more time. I’ve been twice but not for awhile and love the idea of staying at least overnight.

Thank you for your kind words Mary Jo. I would recommend an overnight stay. It is a great town and it gives you a greater amount of time to spend on the grounds. I’m reviewing the hotel later today and it is utterly gorgeous. I bet you’d love it!
Hi sweetheart.. I appreciate you stopping by and lending me your kind remarks. This is utterly beautiful, the gardens alone are enough to draw me there, let alone the exquisite architecture! What a dream to visit.
Sam, the architecture really is exquisite and I hope you get to visit Versailles some time!
