“The energy you give off is the energy you receive. I really think that, so I’m always myself – jumping, dancing, singing around, trying to cheer everybody up.”
Cara Delevingne
What kind of energy do you give off? I saw this post of Cara Delevingne for US Marie Claire September 2019 and her quote and started thinking about my own energy. I grew up with people with very different types of energy. One type of person was the quiet, reserved, but generous type. They barely raised their voices (though there was a reckoning when that happened!) and were generally easygoing as well as easy to be around. On the other hand, I also knew people that were much more lively and reactive. They would face every affront headlong and wouldn’t be great with coping with stress. They were still great people, but also delicate to be around during high pressure periods.
While I had aspects of both of these personas, I unfortunately absorbed more characteristics of the latter one. When I am stressed out, it shows. I can be a stress ball weighed down by the mound of tasks I have to accomplish or the looming deadlines before me. Unfortunately I can also be short-tempered and reactive, quick to lash out at the smallest offenses.
I did realize that I needed to stop letting stress and my own bad mood take over. Bad vibes just lead to more bad vibes. I see my little lady with her quick temper and am especially aware of how I need to model good behavior. She of course is still young and learning how to master her emotions. I have no excuse! So I’ve been trying to reel in my reactions. What good does it do if I have a negative reaction anyway? Sometimes I’ll just take a few minutes to calm down or take a few seconds to think about my reaction if I am confronted with negative vibes. So here’s to giving and getting positive energy!
My energy really depends on who I’m with and where I’m at. I finds it’s best to be adaptable depending on the situation.
She is so beautiful and this is a great editorial! I’ve been trying to be more calm around the kids too – I can get stressed out pretty easily and shout more than I should, so I’m making more of an effort to work on it and be kind over being shouty, haha!
Hope that your week is going well 🙂
