“Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.”
– Bill Cunningham
The Met Gala 2017 honored famed Japanese designer Rei Kawakuno, founder of the avant garde label – Comme des Garçons and was entitled “Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between,”. Her creations are the definition of avant garde – experimental, edgy, and definitely interesting. The Met Gala or Oscars of the East Coast are always an interesting red carpet to watch. This year’s theme promised to be even edgier than previous years. While I’m a fan of more traditional, glamorous gowns, I am still able to appreciate some of the more unique gowns as well. Here are some of my favorite looks from the night.
Best Dressed from the Met Gala 2017
Best texture
Kudos to H&M for creating a dress with such a romantic vibe! Cassie and Diddy made quite a pair and I was pretty impressed with his tuxedo. Rita Ora’s Marchesa gown was unexpectedly edgy, but pretty as well. I think I’d wear Tracee Ellis Ross’ Comme des Garçons dress!

Best trains
One of the standouts was the feathered train on Blake Lively’s Atelier Versace dress – love the pop of color. I also loved the side train on Emmy Rossum’s Carolina Herrera gown. Finally, Priyanka Chopra’s Ralph Lauren trench coat gown was certainly unexpected and interesting!

Best fitted looks
Kate Hudson and Naomi Watts both wore light, but distinct Stella McCartney looks. I love the simple shapes and beautiful fit of both gowns. Naomi Campbell is timelessly gorgeous in this Edward Enninful creation – it’ll be interesting to see his work as Vogue UK’s Editor!

Some of the gowns were unexpectedly fabulous and others quite disappointing. I liked your selections here.
