Beauty DIY: Watermelon manicure

August 13, 2013

Watermelon, in my mind, is the official fruit of summer.

My brother somehow developed a method for picking the best watermelons (I’m still trying to grasp what to listen for when knocking on a watermelon!) and would then proceed to eat about half of a watermelon. It is sad that this juicy fruit is only available during the summer.  But I enjoy it while I can and was inspired to create this easy nail DIY to honor my favorite summer fruit.

  • base coat
  • top coat
  • 3 shades of nail polish (pink, green, and white or black)
  • pin, mechanical pencil or dotting tool

Here are the steps I used to create this manicure:

1. I painted my nails in the base coat and then two coats of pink color (with sufficient drying time between each layer of course!)

2. I drew a small thin line on the tips of my nails with the green nail polish.  Try to make 1 continuous line or at least drag the brush halfway across your nail. It is easier to draw a thin line and make it a little thicker if needed.

3. Then I draw on the little seeds by dotting my nails with the white color (see a tutorial for how to create a polka dot manicure here)

4. Allow sufficient drying time for the tip and polka dots. Then put on top coat to set.

So cute! I love how it turned out. I am pretty rubbish at nail art but love it whenever I get it done by the professionals!

Erika, I know you could create this too! If I had black nail polish, I would have used that for the seeds!

Thank you Sam! The pink shade is my favorite shade now. It is Sally Hansen’s “Get Juiced” and completely adorable and affordable!

That is too cute! I love it! I’m a big fan of watermelon and I still don’t know how to pick them out. I look at them and say oh that one is cute. LOL Sometimes they’re juice & sweet and other times not so. HAHAHA I’m liking smaller watermelons lately. Great post.

this came out so well! I agree, watermelon is one of my favorite summer fruits, though I’m also quite partial to fresh, local strawberries!

Ooh Kizzy, I would definitely do a strawberry DIY but didn’t have a black nail polish for the dots. I’m actually brainstorming an alternative for next time!
