Barcelona was surprisingly one of our favorite trips with our kids. I always loved Spanish artists like Dali and Gaudi whose styles were so surreal and ahead of its time. Fast forward a few decades later and I’m glad my kids got to appreciate Gaudi as well. Seriously, these were also some of the best audio guides. They really immerse you in the site. We loved Barcelona for the art and food. So here’s my Barcelona itinerary with kids including some of our favorite activities and of course great food.
Savings note: Many of the Gaudi sites are FREE for kids under 12 years old. So you can save a significant amount each day!

3 Day Barcelona Itinerary with Kids
Day 1 – Introduction to Gaudi at Park Güell, La Pedrera
Morning
Start off at the famous Park Güell – a sprawling 12 hectare/40 acre park that Gaudi began designing in 1900. This was one of the early and most famous examples of Art Noveau architecture in Barcelona. It started off as an estate for well off families modeled after British residential parks. Now the park is available for all. Residents get free admission from 7 am – 10 am and tourists can buy some of the limited tickets available daily.
You can choose to visit Gaudi’s house (it’s nice and quieter). But don’t forget to pass by “El Drac” (The Dragon) or the lizard fountain symbolizing luck.
📍Park Güell, Gràcia, 08024 Barcelona, Spain

Afternoon/evening
Gaudi’s most iconic civic site – La Pedrera or Casa Milà is known as the stone quarry, which you’ll instantly see from the building’s facade. If you only see one Gaudi site – this is it! Casa Milà not only housed the Milà household, but had 20 other apartments as well. They were centered around two courtyards and elevators on alternating floors allowing neighbors to mingle with each other.

One of my favorite parts here is the roof – a beautiful example of catenary arches made to resemble the ribs of a large animal! There are small models of some of Gaudi’s other sites so it’s a perfect predecessor to other famous sites.
📍La Pedrera/Casa Milà, Pg. de Gràcia, 92, L’Eixample, 08008 Barcelona, Spain

Day 2 Enjoy more design and eat where Picasso ate
Morning
Enjoy more beautiful architecture paired with digital design at Casa Batlló. This site is an especially fun stop for a Barcelona itinerary with kids (and adults) because of the integration of all the digital elements. I highly recommend getting gold or platinum tickets. Then you can access additional areas like the private residence and to get the additional augmented reality console. Begin in the rotating Gaudi dome, a mini and vibrant light show. Continue with your augmented reality device and see how different pieces of architecture come alive. End in the Gaudi cube, an immersive multimedia show by artist Refik.
📍Casa Batlló, Pg. de Gràcia, 43, L’Eixample, 08007 Barcelona, Spain

Afternoon/evening
Keep walking down the grand avenues and relax at Barcelona’s most famous square, Plaça de Catalunya. People watch, have a coffee, or play the piano.
📍Plaça de Catalunya, L’Eixample, 08002 Barcelona, Spain
Eat where Picasso ate and displayed art 125 years ago! We stumbled upon 4 gats which was built in 1897. It is so cool to eat at the restaurant where Picasso held his first individual exhibition. I love the old school luxury feel, but the food itself from the paella to seafood is actually cooked well.
📍4 gats, Carrer de Montsió, 3, 08002 Barcelona

Day 3 Revel in the Sagrada Familia and great views of Barcelona
Morning
Beat the crowds and see the church still being built after 140+ years; actually in 2026 they hope to complete it when they finish building the Tower of Jesus Christ! Then it will be the tallest church tower in the world! Trust me, it’s really worth paying the extra 10 € for the Tower access. This is NOT the best view of Barcelona, but a good chance to see details of the church up close. I didn’t realize there were grapes and wheat on the towers as well! Note that there is a lift up but 400 steps down.
Another must see spot that a lot of people miss is the basement museum. It is quiet and beautifully done with more information and models of Sagrada Familia.
📍Sagrada Familia, Carrer de Mallorca, 401, L’Eixample, 08013 Barcelona, Spain

Afternoon/evening
Now this is a clearer city view at the 60m tall Columbus monument. You can actually go up and really see Barcelona from a different angle there.
📍Plaça Portal de la Pau, s/n, Ciutat Vella, 08002 Barcelona, Spain
Have your last taste of paella by the water. This hip restaurant also serves lovely seafood in a chill and relaxed setting.
📍La Mar Salada, Pg. de Joan de Borbó, 58, 59, Ciutat Vella, 08003 Barcelona, Spain
