Time is one of those things we can never quite control.
We can try to manage it, but it will occur regardless of what we do. We can’t slow it down (to freeze a really good moment) or speed it up (to bypass those bad days!) It is no wonder artists are endlessly fascinated with time. Hermès is also exploring time and has collaborated with Hilton McConnico – a designer and artist – to put on the “The Gift of Time” exhibit – to highlight the concept of time through art.
I went to this exhibit recently with the husband (a chance to view art and delightful Hermès goodies – yes please!)
The exhibit highlighted a few concepts we wish we could do with time – a sundial bearing a horse wound backwards, a room of quotes reminded one to appreciate time, and a comparison of an older bag and a newer bag highlighted how an item can get better with age.
The exhibit was a whimsical take on time. Of course it highlighted the brand’s goods throughout the decades, but in a very fun way (a cuckoo clock at the end has a Hermès horse sounding at the end). I also haven appreciation for the brand’s good after attending the Hermès Festival des Métiers (Festival of Crafts) and learning how many different artisans come together to produce a single object (it takes two years to create a scarf from design to finish!)
I loved this room – it was so quirky and full of fun details, like this ceiling that is like a Hermès scarf!
The exhibit is Lille, France next. If my husband can enjoy this exhibit, you’ll likely have fun too!
