I’ve been going through a little bit of a rough time lately, but was going through some old photos that make me smile. Bright colors always make me happier. So it’s no surprise that the Old Hill Street Police Station or Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth is one site that lift my spirits. The shutters of this tall building are in lovely, gradient colors.
If you’re looking for a little brightness in your life, stop by the next time you’re around Clarke Quay in Singapore!

Budapest has unexpectedly one of my favorite cities to visit!

Initially I just booked out #budapesttrip because we were visiting Vienna and I read that this would be a good city to visit too. But the people, architecture and food (surprisingly a lot of good Mediterranean and Middle Eastern in addition to Hungarian food!)

I know I’ll be back someday but in the meantime wanted to offer some tips that may be useful.

When are you visiting Japan again and where will you go?

Does it seem like you’re always hearing of someone that has visited or is planning to visit Japan soon? A record 42.7 million tourists visited Japan in 2025 and I don’t see that number declining.
I’ll be part of that statistic when we ski in Niseko again in a few months.

I just gave my extended family a few suggestions for their first trip to Tokyo last week. One of the reasons I create these itineraries and lists is definitely for friends and family to reference.
There is still a lot I want to explore in Japan but here are a few places that are viral, but worth it for your next #japantrip.

1️⃣ teamLab Planets, Tokyo
This design collective truly makes some of the most beautiful and interactive installations. I loved the totally sensory experience including the Crystal Universe and the Garden at teamLab Planets.

2️⃣Kinkaku-ji, Kyoto
The Golden Pavilion was first built in 1397, but rebuilt and renovated with its famous gold leaf in 1984. It does get busy, but is absolutely stunning. We went early before doors opened which was a little less crowded. I found it fun walking away from the main temple and buying snacks on the grounds.

3️⃣ Tokyo DisneySea, Tokyo
I am not an experienced Disney Parks guest, but still enjoy my visits. The Tokyo DisneySea park feels more open and is the only DisneySea in the world (built around the concept of visiting different harbors). There are fewer shows and little touches like the gondola rides are fun. Also the pepper popcorn is crazy addictive.

Are you looking for a break from the urban #lifeinsingapore ?
Well, you can definitely consider a hike in and around MacRitchie Reservoir, Singapore’s oldest and largest water supply completed in 1867. I went on the loop up and around the beautiful 250 meter suspension bridge last year and feel like I should visit again.

Yes it’s hot, but sometimes there’s nothing quite as liberating as being out in nature like this.

Firangi Superstar is one of the loveliest and moodiest restaurants I’ve visited in Singapore. The decor can be funky and beautiful and I didn’t expect it all when I first entered. You first come hrough the Old Railway Room which is styled like a vintage officer’s club meets railway carriage. Step further in and you’re in the Jungle Lounge, with stunning wallpaper and jewel tones evoking an Indian palace.

We went for Saturday brunch and it was the perfect place for Modern Indian food and champagne. I also just read that “firangi” refers to foreigners. The owners reclaimed that terms since increasingly we live and work in so many places. Are global citizens then firing superstars?

⭐️ Dishes I loved
The Out of the Box Starter Kit is a knockout set of appetizers. I loved the crunchy puri with caviar to the spiced pepper fry with crab. Fish & chips has a great kick. I with the carrot cake had more cream cheese but it was still moist and tasty.

I don’t really remember much about summer breaks growing up. But I wasn’t traveling a lot because my parents were always busy. I would usually hang out in our yard and sometimes even climb the roof to a shed we had back there (I don’t think my parents ever realized this!)
I also spent a few summers with my aunt’s family who did bring us to a few places like the Grand Canyon and Las Vegas. My aunt was the original coupon queen and planted the seed of how to maximize savings.

But my kids lead such different lives and we travel to at least two countries every long break. I’m also so much better at redeeming #awardtravel which has opened up the world to us.

#familytravelers tip: Koh Samui has amazing values for 5 star hotels. You can use points or pay cash for a deluxe room (possibly getting upgraded to a suite if you have status). I highly recommend it for a slightly less busy beach location in Thailand. My eldest has requested returning so we will try to go again!

I’ve been visiting Taiwan all my life. But I didn’t explore much beyond Taipei, Hsinchu, and the same few restaurants (uneventful family visit, ifkyk).

But now that I’ve started bringing my own kids to Taiwan, I’ve seen more of it than I’ve seen before!
I’ve ventured to the hot springs in Beitou to the scallion or spring onion farms in Yilan. I learned how to make 紅龜粿 or anh ku kueh rice flour cakes too.

Somehow it all connects to food!

⭐️Food is art. Where else can you find the 翠玉白菜or jadeite cabbage carved from a single piece of jade?
⭐️Food is culture. I learned so much more about the Japanese and Chinese influences and integrations into Taiwanese food today.
⭐️Food is a place. Regional tastes vary. I loved the fruit in Tainan and scallion pancakes in Yilan.

We visit every year and I’m happy to uncover more foods later this year when I’m #FindingTaiwan2026

I was pleasantly surprised at our small roadtrip through Connecticut. So I wanted to highlight the calm, beautiful and clean beaches. It was earlier in the season but I really loved how this beach was so serene. You can walk pretty far out during low tide and see a variety of seashells too.
I love finding quiet places like this where the kids can really enjoy themselves and highly recommend it if you’re visiting the East coast of the US (it was only about 2 hours from NYC).
